Oh ya, I hear you. The ones I'm looking at check off nearly everything you mentioned save for the 11.2. Those are kinda way out of my price range. In addition, I would at most see myself using 5.1.2 or 7.2; simply due to room size and what I can accommodate.

Then your good. Personally another thing to keep in mind is the diff flavors of Auto Calibration.

    Pioneer = MCACC
Denon/Marantz = Audyssey (with all its diff versions)
    Yamaha = YPAO

Each works differently and has diff pro's and con's. If going with a model with Audyseey, MAKE SURE it has XT32 AND SubEQ (each is its own thing). XT32 handles your speakers. SubEQ handles when you have more than one sub and they may or may not be the same distance from your seats. Good thing to have.

And good call on Accessories4less. I got my Denon from them (new though, not refurb), but I wouldn't have a problem buying a refurb from them.

Personally the Marantz AV7702, or the AV7702 mkII are some I've had my eyes on myself...

I've used the Audyssey in times past. Worked really, really well. Onkyo's use the AccuEx which....isn't that good. But very good pointers to look out for. Thank you!

That's a great price on a good receiver. Jump on it man. A4L has had issues with returns before but I think the issues have always been resolved.

Yea, I'm talking to a few guys about it in a HT Facebook group. The actual service is great, products can be hit or miss though. Guess that's what you risk when you buy refurb. I'm going to convince then wife for the SR7009 which is only $799. Either or, I'm getting one of them.

But hey, at least it comes with 4 free HDMI cables! :p

    Good luck with the wife!

That's always the hardest part of any audio purchase!

    Glad you've narrowed it down.

I won't lie, I'm torn between the SR6010 or the SR7009. I got both in the checkout cart. The 7009 is a flat out raw beast. Plus it looks nicer with the blue trimmed display panel lol. But something about the SR6010 just seems like a better value.

Nothing wrong with either, as a Marantz AVR owner I know what they are capable of, even my entry level full sized 5010 punches will above it's weight when it comes to trying to keep up with the externally amp'ed front speakers. Just an FYI, the 7009 was the top end a few years back and will flat out destroy the 6010 in the finesse department :)

I know, it's crazy! The power on the 7009 is insane. Is it wrong to think in a way such as "The 7009 is already 2+ years old, but the 6010 is newer."? I know the 7009 doesn't have DTS:X; only Atmos, but if it's truly a beneficial sacrifice in a sense where the 7009 is purely the better option from a cleaner, more powerful sound standpoint, then maybe I'll just go with that. Then again I am only running the Polk Signature Series speakers, not like I'm running Paradigm Studio 100 v.5's.

I just bought some new Mediabridge ULTRA Series 12AWG w/ gold plated banana plugs soldered on to them for the front left, front right and center speakers (leaving the two surrounds with their current cabling w/banana plugs) from Amazon.

The time difference between the two is one release, there was the 009 series, then the 010 and now the 011. Insert a 5, 6 or 7 at the front. I've set up a meeting for tomorrow to look at a 6008 for my bedroom system, I don't do DTS-X on the 5010 although the latest firmware update says it added it or something but eh. I might evne place the 6008 into the main rig and take the 5010 into the bedroom...never know. I just know that 7009 will be a mighty powerhouse for the bucks.

I think you've convinced me. Last, most important question and strangely I'm not seeing this on Marantz's site, and I'm going to assume it does - but the 7009 does support Spotify right?

Yep, as long as you shove a network cable into the rear of it or connect it via wifi...I use wired with my 5010, much more reliable.

It's been decided. "Shove" is Ken's favorite word. Shoving CAT5 cables in places, shoving watts into speakers, sometimes you have to be gentle Ken. :p

Thank you very much! Super psyched! This past week has been crazy, new Polk Signature Series speakers (except for the T15's which I'm leaving for surrounds), new receiver, new cabling. I think I'm set for quite a while.

One last thing I want to ask though, can this thing do HDR pass-through? I know it does 4K, upscaling, etc. but I do have a Samsung UBD-K8500, 4K LG TV with HDR.

Don't worry too much about video related stuff as it pertains to 4K and HDR.

Your Samsung has dual HDMI outputs for a very good reason, to connect "legacy" audio products.

One HDMI (main on your Samsung) will go directly to your TV and the second HDMI will go to the SR7009 for all of your audio needs.

The 7009 doesn't have HDR capabilities. Just shows you how fast the AVR world changes. Lot of bad reviews because the wouldn't do a DTS X update. That was a really weird year. Every AVR was pretty much lacking that format, and many felt outdated upon release. HDR wasn't even talked about then.

Think the 7010 had HDR capabilities, but really wouldn't worry too much about it. I'll be surprised if the current releases aren't dated within the next year or so.

The 7009 is a very good and capable receiver. You should be alright for quite a while. it will have no problem driving your speakers, will do everything your current set up is capable, and you can stream everything offered as well as play every DVDs currently marketed.

A lot of things are just good marketing. Think of it in terms of a tv. If you buy a 40 inch or less tv, you would probably not see a difference past 720, but they still sell resolutions above that level. Other than the HDMI and HDCP protocols, there wouldn't be any reason to upgrade it. Your getting to the level where a tv is nothing more than a display.

At your price point, sound will get no better, unless you just don't like the Marantz house sound.

Forgot about the two HDMI outputs on my player. Thankfully Samsung included them for this exact reason. Thanks!

Yea, I see what you're saying. Makes sense. Technically, the receiver is what, $2000 msrp? I'm just getting it for $800 since it's a refurbished. I'd hope to hear a difference with a receiver like this compared to my Onkyo TX-NR555...lol.

So the SR7009 was delivered this morning and I've legitimately been messing around with it all day. Used Audyssey to setup and calibrate, tried a few movies.

Absolute night and day difference. Blew my friggin mind away. And the Signature Series sounds absolutely freaking amazing with this compared the TX-NR555. I've always bought the lower end receivers thinking they were "awesome" but boy or boy, little did I know what I was missing once I started using the Marantz.

It's going to take a little getting used too because my bass is simply all over the room atm, but I'll figure it out and fix it.

Thank you very much everyone for helping me with this again!

Congrats on the AVR, and convincing the wife to allow you to buy it.

Most bass issues are caused by the room itself or bad positioning. If you have the sub jammed in a corner, for instance, you add a lot of room gain. Sometimes moving a sub by 6 inches or so solves a lot of issues.

I'd do a sub crawl, and start over if I were you.
