CS400i tweeter swap

Could one of our resident crossover experts tell we what would be involved in swapping a RD0198-1 tweeter into a CS400i center?
I am not overly concerned with actual mounting of the driver itself at this point and realize there will be modifications required for proper mounting. I have an inhouse autocad guy and 3D printer large enough to run a new faceplate or mounting adapters if necessary. Thanks in advance for any input or advice.

Unfortunately, we don't have the T/S parameters for either Tweeter. Without that information, you're flying blind.
If you do want to pursue it, the RDO-194-1 would be easier, since it doesn't require a contour network.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Would the T/S parameters be available from Polk, are they likely to provide them for me if I ask? I had mentioned the 198-1 as that is what I have in the M7 Series II's I use as the front R&L. Would the 194-1 be a better match than what is currently in the CS400i?
@KennethSwauger is it possible to get the T/S parameter information? Thank you -
Is there something about the cs400 tweeter you don't like? Depending on when the 400 was made in the run, Polk changed a cap value in the high frequency circuit...increased from 9 to 12 if I recall correctly...perhaps to tame it a bit?Post edited by DollarDave on

are they not already tri-lamate tweeters? I know mine in the CS350 is ....well pretty sure anyway. would this not be a backward move?

It is not that I dislike the tweeter in the CS400i but switching between 3.1 and 2.1 I can hear the difference between the center's tweeter and the RD0-198-1 in the M7's. I was just wondering if the swap could be done without major surgery. I am gearing up to redo the center's crossover to match the parts I used for the 7's and figured "in for a penny in for a pound".

You may be correct, I am not sure which is why I asked here. Ken may be able to give the specifics. A simple recap to match the clarity/mills combo I did in the 7's may well be the best way to proceed. -
The RDO-194/198 are not tri-laminate, they're silk dome.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Yes I understand that Dave. I thought the OP was trying to go that direction when he was asking about the 198. I thought the M7 Series 2 would of already had the Tri-lam tweeter SL2500/SL3000 in it to match pretty well with the CS400

My Monitor 7's have been swapped to the RD0-198-1 tweeter so I had thought to make them all the same if I was going into the center channel anyway.

Keep in mind, the center channel is designed to anchor the sound to what's on screen. Much of the human voice is in the midrange, so the woofers are reproducing the bulk of the dialog, not the tweeters. That's one of the reasons I built my own center, using vintage drivers and crossover.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Good point Dave. At this point my best course of action is probably to do the crossover with parts to match the 7's and go from there. Thanks for all of the input.
