What was that one thing as a kid...

.....you never got ? Everyone has that one thing you always wanted as a kid but for some reason never was able to get.

For me, it was a Rupp Black Widow mini bike. My second choice at the time was a Honda SL70. Sure, I had others, but they were home made jobbies, fast...but beaters in reality. The reason I ask is I find myself looking at things for the grandkids that I never had. All terrain go karts, ATV's, mini bikes, etc. I'm not so sure I would be buying these things for them...or me. lol

So what was your fantasy as a kid you never got ?

Fun topic. This changed for me as I went along.

For a while, I really wanted a drum set. nope.
In later years, I wanted a moped.
There was a bear in there, too, somewhere.

My paper route money only went so far. What a racket that was for the local distribution.

I remember crashing a minibike into a thorn bush/tree in the woods my first time. also my first experience with hitting a root, getting bounced, and whiskey throttling it. 'bout all you're thinking about your first time is, holy *$@% hold on! and then, *$@% my Mom's gonna kill me for tearing my jeans.

Yeah well....Raquel Welch for me. Probably have a better shot at it today though. lol

Another of mine was a car. Always wanted to drive. My first car was a beater chevy impala I paid 150 bucks for. I was 15....didn't have a license yet, and parked it 2 blocks from the house so my father wouldn't see it.

Until one day we passed each other on a side street. He just stared at me, and I at him, as we slowly drove past each other. Yeah, big trouble awaited me when I got home.....and I sure took my time getting home.

Also loved radio controlled planes, but never had one. Now they have drones real cheap and those planes in my day were still fairly expensive.

PF flyer gym shoes.....for some reason I thought I could run faster with them. :)
Being a little Dago kid, you were always doing a lot of running.

Instead we had a Big Wheel... which was fun, don't get me wrong, but definitely not as cool.

I still remember our Big Wheel having flat spots on the front plastic tire from slamming on the "brakes" after going down steep hills on the road.

I had a chopper mini-bike, Yamaha GT80 trail motorcycle and a 1960's Lotus F1 electric car (inside use only when I was a tike). I always wanted a Go-Kart. Sure the mini-bike and motorcycle were awesome, but I envied my friends that had a Go-cart, powered with the same engine as my mini-bike. Everyone had a mini-bike it seemed, but only a few people had a Go-cart.

This would have been around 1973-1977 time frame for the motor vehicles.

We were dirt poor, single mom and all, but my maternal grandparents made sure we had a whirly-bird, swing set, radio flyer, pedal tractor, fastest trike on the block.
I guess steak once in a while, instead of chicken, which explains my loathing of foul to this day.

I can totally relate to the Honda trail bikes. Man did I drool as a child. I remember I got my first mini bike at a JC Penny warehouse sale in Cleveland. Damn I loved that bike but I sure spent a lot of time at the local honda dealer staring in the window and walking the store. Great memories. Thanks Tony

The very first time I took off on my Mini-bike was after my Dad was fooling around with the throttle cable. I was about 8 at the time. I was pointed in the wrong direction when I hopped on, I hit the throttle and it stuck wide open and I took off across our lawn and about 4 others before my Dad, running like a sprinter, caught up with me to kill the engine. I still don't know how I navigated and missed, trees, parked cars, culvert ditches, etc. Just lucky I guess.....lol

I guess I had it pretty good. I can remember dreaming of audio equipment. My dad was a subscriber to "Stereo Review" and "Hi-Fidelity" magazines. I can remember reading those from cover to cover and dreaming about putting a system together.

I can also remember when my dad brought home his set, that's right 2, Technics SL-1200MK2's. I was amazed. The next year he bought me one for x-mas to pair with the little system I had that consisted of a Pioneer SX-6 (I think that was the model) and a pair of Frazier Sevens speakers. I actually still have the speakers stored away.

You were dreaming of audio gear as a kid ?? Were you ever a kid ? lol

Seems many of us had a desire for all things with motors on them. Another thing I wanted but never got.....that darn motorized skate board from the Monkeys show.

So I did the next best thing, wrapped about a dozen model rocket engines to an old skate board and lit the fuse. Didn't work as expected.....story of my life man. lol
