Female, Tracy nelson, Male, Tom Jones.

Most of you have never heard of tracy, please look up her and willie singin "After the fire is gone", I will post a link with ralph emery intro as soon as I go to my notebook due to desktop not doing cut and paste anymore.

Most wont believe jones was underrated but because of his song selection, his operatic voice was ignored by many.

Gimme some more.

Karen Carpenter was great, she was also a good drummer. Bing also was in a elite class with a few others from that day like Sinatra, Dino, Como, Darin,Lawrence, Gary, etc. Nobody here probably remembers Vaughn Monroe, but he had that big voice you can hear on Ghost Riders In The Sky. Another fantastic female singer from back in the day was Jo Stafford. Mr.Buhl mention buttah, yea, that was Jo, what a class act.

I think Donna Summer was FAR more talented than many of her songs would suggest. She had an incredible voice.

Peabo Bryson on the male side, that dude's voice is velvety smooth.

20 years ago, I did. Did a lot of HVAC work for quite a few studios and post production houses in NYC. Ran into James Earl Jones one time.

    Karen Carpenter, and Charlie Rich.

I hardly think Karen Carpenter has the most underrated voice? She is universally-recognized as one of the greatest female vocalists of all-time. I don't know too many who would disagree.

"Underrated" means someone who is not recognized as one of the greatest or doesn't get the recognition they deserved. I don't think Karen falls in that category. She definitely had a one in a million voice.

I do think Karen Carpenter was underrated as a drummer though.

I agree with you that Charlie Rich may have had an underrated voice.

:D. No worries. I can dish it out and take it like a champ. And when I find out where you live...... ;)
I did a few voice overs many moons ago. And I have to tone it back sometimes because it carries about a mile. People stop and point.

He (Lightman) does have quite the voice -- tho' I've only heard it via the phone.
I could imagine him, maybe, singing a Tom T. Hall song (e.g., "Watermelon Wine")... or maybe voicing a Dark Lord from the southern end of the Empire in some as yet unmade Star Wars movie...
