Agree with OP about Tracy Nelson. She's so good, and almost completely unknown. Her first band (I think) was Mother Earth. He solo stuff is as good or better IMHO.

Russ' singing style is known as "brokeback", and is most commonly performed whilst wearing a$$less chaps.

Marvin Gaye is not bad, as far as lightmans singing voice goes, I can only imagine it is like Barry White, only 3 times as deep and somewhat Scary :D It's all good Russ.

Neil Diamond. Not sure if he's really "underrated", but I certainly didn't appreciate how good his voice was back in the day -- but I was just a kid.

a tremendously talented pop song writer he was/is, as well -- even if the subject matter of "Sweet Caroline", in retrospect, is a bit creepy.

I can assure you no such union took place. The Dark Side of the force is powerful, but ther is no Force in the universe powerful enough for that. Russ might just be the spawn of Barry White and Rosie Odonell.

    Yes, for sure!

I have to put Ledisi out there also. She's an R&B, Jazz, Soul vocalist that has made some noise. She's even been nominated about nine times for a Grammy but has yet to win one. She's lost to artist like Chris Brown,etc... and instead of being asked to peformed live at the Grammy's the song 'Take My Hand, Precious Lord' , that she sang on the Selma soundtrack, she was snubbed and Beyonce was asked to perform the song. Its bad enough they won't give her one but her MAJOR Grammy moment to perform was lost!

    Her respect is due!

    Jim Morrison? No.
Neil Diamond? Probably (although his primary talent is/was probably songwriting -- but, as a singer, he brings a certain overwrought drama to many of his songs that fits them).
Brandi Carlile? May be too early to tell. I think she's still on the upswing of her career arc. She's a little idiosyncratic, but I enjoy her stuff more often than I don't.

All just my opinions, of course.
