I wouldn't, the current Tacoma is basically the same truck they have had for a decade... I would wait for the new model to be released.

I've wanted a new one for about a decade now... the 2017 looks a whole lot different than a 2007 to me though. When is this new model coming and what are the significant changes?

It is my understanding that the ladder frame and rear leaf spring suspension in the Tacoma has been used for 10 years, although the engines and body work have changed.

Just a comment from a somewhat bemused bystander -- in today's parlance, the (once) midsized pickups are huge and the (once) fullsized pickups are leviathan.

Everything about 'em, that is -- except the beds which, in almost all cases, aren't really big enough to carry stuff like... a sofa. A piece of plywood or drywall. In some cases, they're not really big enough to carry much of anything.

uh-oh, I am perilously close to getting started... ;- )

JM, this is what i would suggest and i might seem odd to the dealership. Show up with the whole family and stuff them into the Canyon. You'll be buying a Sierra after that moment. I had a crew cab Nissan frontier and occasionally, had 5 people in it. Not bad, but not good either.

My dream vehicle is not some pricey sports car, its a 2500 Denali Crew Cab. Best looking truck on the road. But i will never be able to afford it.

My company bought me a new 2016 Ram 1500 Diesel. I hate it, but the other guys in the company love it. YMMV!

Stick with GM, its the brand you want. Just like everything else on this planet, everyone has a "story" to tell.

Who buys short bed trucks....those aren't trucks. Those are El Caminos. :D

Got the Wife a new full size Titan last year it was between the Tundra, the F150 she chose the Nissan. The new F150 is nice couldn't quite fit that into our budget hey its got aluminum 1/4 panels so they should be able to handle the winters with out rust. I'm a Yota fan myself.

LOL, Trucks are to haul stuff around, tow things with.....but also get beat up fairly quick if that's the main gig for using one. If your making a living with one, different story. I just don't see the practical use as a family cruiser.

If a truck though is your "thing", and you want to buy new I'd imagine you want it to look that way as long as possible. Hauling building materials, to me, works against that objective. All I'm sayin'...

.....and, you'd be surprised on the things I have strapped to the roof of a Honda Accord. ;)

    Canyon diesel!!

I don't really have anything else to add. Can you fit a full sheet of plywood flat in the bed of a canyon?

I'm a fan of Toyota trucks as well, but I bought my Titan because of the huge difference in price at the time and it had more of what I liked. In 2008, when gas was up to $5/gal or higher down here, Nissan was giving the Titans away. Toyota wouldn't budge on price. I picked up a Pro-4x Titan for $13k less than I could negotiate on a Tundra TRD.

The old Titan has hauled way more than it should for long distances, been down quite a few serious trails with only minor(well, some not so minor) battle scars, and has been problem free... Can't complain about that purchase.

Those new Sierras look unbelievable though, and a 2500 Denali Duramax is the schitt. Too bad I'd need lottery money to buy one today.

Sure with the tailgate down. The standard box is 5'2" and the long box is 6'2." Just under 5 feet wide inside the bed and not just under 4' between the wheel tubs.

The the 2500 HD Sierra is very nice. I certainly would not use that truck to its potential though.

If you ever came across a can of black spray paint, albeit that might be difficult, it would do the trick...

So when are you buying the Canyon and what color?

You could just scrap the new truck idea and buy a pair of MIT cables ya know? Just kidding, I'd get the truck.

No, the new Tacoma ain't the same as the last one. I've had both and love my 2016. While they have some styling similarities, the mechanicals are greatly improved. Better excelleration, smoother shifting, more interior comforts, a pretty good navigation/ entertainment package, and many after market goodies if you are into that.

In my humble opinion, the GMC's just aren't in the same league. And, my Tacoma was built in San Antonio .

    From Car and Driver:

Toyota’s not fooling anyone. Everybody who looks at the 2016 Tacoma sees that it’s just about the same truck that Toyota has built for a decade. The revisions, updates, and fortifications that make this truck kind of new are worthwhile, but the basic suspension, chassis, cab designs, and idiosyncracies carry over intact. The character of this truck, a Camry with a rear patio, is instantly familiar, as the rugged, indomitable, yet inoffensive soul of the mid-size Toyota pickup is the same as it ever was.

    http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/2015-chevrolet-colorado-lt-crew-cab-4wd-vs-2016-toyota-tacoma-trd-off-road-double-cab-4x4-comparison-test

Additionally, the Colorado/Canyon is heavier, faster, more powerful, and beats the Taco in almost every category and it's made in Missouri.

2016 GMC vs Tacoma vs Frontier review by Off-road.com

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the midsize trucks. All comes down to you and it is apparent that you have settled on GMC. Shweeet! Nice looking truck. Almost bought a colorado back in 07 but settled on a new Frontier. Chevy's Sunburst orange was slick! Toyota was too much for too little.

The diesel specs are impressive but expensive. Not sure if that's your cup of tea. Maybe it is! The biggest gripe i have with diesel has nothing to do with the vehicle itself, its all the gass-holes that park at the diesel pumps, even when the rest of the station is wide open because it's closest to the exit. Drives me nuuuuts!

I will own a crew cab Frontier again. Miss it every day of the week. :(

There are a lot of proud Toyota owners here. Glad you're sticking to your guns!

    Buy a Frontier!!! :p

Are your children younger or older? I was forced to seek another vehicle due to car seat restrictions in my truck. Damn kids!
