AMC theaters may allow use of phones during movies

My wife is guilty of this every time we go to watch a movie, in our living room, NOT at the theater. However it still drives me nuts when im so enveloped in the visual audio emotion of the movie, and i glance over to see her glued to her phone, scanning up on Facebook or twitter. Have we become so adhd that we have to keep our minds stimulated all the time? i Think that if your going to the movies you need to turn off your phone and leave it in your pocket! Just the courteous thing to do in my opinion.

I think at the movie theater there should be no phones allowed. Be respectful & go out to the lobby.... At home-My wife looks at her phone while i watch movies-no biggie & as i type this-she is watching her recorded Days or our Lives soap opera i have no interest in..

Its not just movies that i am watching, but movies and shows that she picks out is when it bothers me more.... If im not fully enveloped into the movie or show and its just not that great and i will go do something else. and yea there are things that my wife watches that i could never sit down and watch... ex= housewives of whatever... she likes them all. i dont get it(Main) Yamaha rx a3040, Emotiva XPA-5, 2X Polk Audio RTIA9, Definitive Technology Mythos 10, 2X Polk Audio M20, Klipsch RW12d, 55in LG led TV with color changing accent lights behind.

I agree, way too connected and distracted. There is a lot of study underway on this - psychological effects, and and the impact to real world social. I just read some articles about social/technology/internet addiction, etc. Then there's plain common courtesy. I think it's rude to allow oneself to be continually distracted by a device in the presence of others in a social setting. I have friends whose wives are eaten up by social. It isn't doing anything to help strained relationships for some of them, either.
This place doesn't count, though.I disabled signatures. -
We rarely go to the theatres anymore but on occasion there is that must see movie, nothing pisses me off more than some a hole on thier cell phone even during the previews when the tell you not to. I look at it this way unless they are bigger than me I just start flicking butter popcorn at em most of the time they get the hint. It is a sickness though there are times when me the wife and the kids all get together and I will be damned everyone is on thier cell phones so much for family get togethers.Home Theater

I haven't been to a movie theater in about 15 years because of people talking on their phone during the movie. After I complained to the management, who did nothing I took matters into my own hands. I told the guy in front of me that if he didn't hang up I'd shove it up his ****. I stood up and he hung up. I don't suffer fools or the ignorant.Political Correctness'.........defined

I got a bunch of free coupons for candy and a movie for being a rat and going to the manager to complain.

Come on Jesse mellow out man, just because there are signs scattered about the theatre warning about cell phone usage, and after the let's go out to the lobby and buy ourselves some snacks commercial, the singing and dancing tub of popcorn, box of candy and soda pop tell you it's not polite to use your cell phone comercial, and 99% of the movie patrons under stand that cell phone usage is prohibited , there is always that one dumb effer that don't adhere to the rules, that means you should strike a polite conversation with him about the rules, as that will teach them. The same people that are on their phones checking their Facebook during movies and shows are the same people that are incapable of sitting and just listening to music.
"Listen to music and what?"
"Nothing, just sitting and listening."
"That sounds boring."afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

The entire thing is to cater to the young audience.

I know Steve, right. Fortunately, there are those that are not afraid to stand up, not only for their rights, but also for those that can't do more than whimper under a bridge.Political Correctness'.........defined

A Civil society needs rules, standards of conduct, and moral principles, grounded in respect for the individual. What we are seeing happen all around us is what happens when we chuck all that is good out the window in favor of mob rule, lack of respect for anyone other than ourselves, and a complete depravity of morality.
I know this is about cellphones in theaters, but to me it is really a much bigger issue. Today, if a man decides to have a Shania Twain moment and feel like a woman, he can go into the ladies room and nobody can even roll their eyes at them for fear of being labeled a bigot or worse....
We are fast losing any sense of right and wrong to the God of the P.C. crowd... This to me is just another sign of how truly screwed up we have become... End rant. The Gear... I have a cousin with whom I'm supposed to be very close with. She has time to post every little detail about her life on Facebook but can't find one minute to send me a text. It seems like an Eddiction. I don't have Facebook so I never hear from her anymore.

Thanks for adding the article nightfall! I agree this could be just a publicity stunt pulled by amc. Let's hope that it never gets as ok everyone can just talk and text in the theater... I live on a small town and the only theater where I live is a crapy cinemark, they are ok. Cramped space small screens and mediocre sound. i don't think they do as good of a job as they could be. For the same price I can go to Cleveland or Columbus and watch an amc movie in a luxury recliner and have people wait on me during the movie! Eating a burger and frys and sipping on a beer during a movie has expanded my movie going experience. Not to mention the screen was huge and the sound just explosive, and you actually have some breathing room, But if they start allowing cell phones ill be watching more movies at home. I just wish I had the money to make it a reality in my basement. Then you would never see or hear from me again!(Main) Yamaha rx a3040, Emotiva XPA-5, 2X Polk Audio RTIA9, Definitive Technology Mythos 10, 2X Polk Audio M20, Klipsch RW12d, 55in LG led TV with color changing accent lights behind.

Personally, I don't get it. Cell phone users are an annoyance, not a benefit in that environment. Cell phones in general are an annoyance, at the dinner table, movies, work, people walking off cliffs or into lakes, car accidents, etc. There's a time and a place for everything, why must we constantly cater to everything having to be acceptable ?HT SYSTEM-

I have been through a great many high end projectors and I always stick with a projector that can be had for $500 used, benq w1080. For $15 you can get the paint codes to put a screen on the wall thats the same and better color contrast than a $5000 screen. Make it a reality! Dont get shot by some nutter or loose your hair over some pig that stinks with no manners from bad breeding!

Violence and bullying are not the answer. There are too many examples where this leads to out of proportion negative consequences.
People are usually receptive to a respectful and polite request.
And there are many examples where being a "kitty" has a negative response as well, sometimes one needs to have a set of nuts, and stand up and say something in a stern manner..
Sometimes you come across like you have all the answers, and everyone around you handles everything wrong..

Yep projectors are where its at! Hang a screen in front of the tv, Pop in a blue ray,Dim the lights,Put your feet up,Crack a beer, Light a spliff And ease back and enjoy the fact that you don't have to deal with the irritation of the aggravation anymore!

I hate when someone next to you starts using their phone, but not being shy about expressing my opinions. I have no problems asking the person politely (I am Canadian) to turn it off most people comply because it seems that other people around them will chime in as soon as someone else make the first comment about there rudeness.
Because it is rude / bad manners to disturb other people weather it's a movie, show, play or whatever if your actions disturbs / interferes with other people's enjoyment you should be cuffed on the back of the head and told to smarten up.(although now days you could be shot or stabbed so please just think that don't do it)
I don't know about anyone else but manners when I was growing up was a big deal and both my Mom and Dad were quick to remind me with said cuff to the back of the head.
Cheers -

I am a rewards member at AMC and I guess because of that, I got an email from them saying that they have heard "loud and clear" that their patrons do NOT want texting allowed in the theater and they will not allow it "now or ever".
