Wow, i thought i had remembered all the prior pictures you posted of your hacienda being mostly on red-ish dirt/sand. I learned something today!

What a beautiful piece of real estate you have!

I think your garage is bigger than my house..... :D

Thanks. When we moved in 3 years ago it was about 70% dirt, but thanks to 2 years of CRAZY monsoon rain levels it's almost 100% grassed in. The garage is actually bigger than the house---the house is 2400 sqft, the garage 2584. It has a bedroom and full bath in the garage, affectionately known as the casita.

It amazes me how things green-up here in the spring with absolutely no rain.

I don't get to cut my grass anymore :( so I have a guy that does it.... I had the whole property re-sodded last April with FloraTam which stayed green this winter with irrigation, and is now is full crazy grow mode... I pay $80 a month to a guy who cuts it once every 5-6 days in "summer" and about once every 8 days in winter... He also trims bushes and palms when needed about once a quarter... But if I was to cut it myself, I would get a:

It's 80/mo for 12mos. but still gets cut in jan feb and then in march it's full tilt again. FloraTam does not go dormant if it stays irrigated.

    That's the going rate...

He mows and trims the bushes/palms. The dude has a badass exmark mower like 30HP V twin 60" 0 turn m f er.

I have another service that does fert and oils and deep root ferts the palms and treats for pests separately. And they use the fertilizer that I want them to use.... Lesco for Floratam for 800 for the year...

I had to add a good suspension seat to mine, some rough areas to mow.

That's not so unreasonable I think, if you look at your typical quarter acre lot and they want anywhere from 30-50 bucks. These zero turns too I'd imagine are costly to upkeep.

What did ranchers do before lawnmowers and zero turns ? Cows baby....get you some cows, free milk, meat, and free grass mowing.

I wouldn't be able to afford lawn service at the rate my grass is growing. About every 2- 3 days I have to mow or I get caught with mowing more than 1/2 the height of the grass. 1+ acre at $50 a pop? That would be about half of my mortgage!!!

I mow with a big smile on my noggin' knowing my lawn is 100% DIY and stands out in a generally well maintained neighborhood. Cub Cadet here, 42". I would get a zero turn but I do not like the end result when rolling hills are introduced. Some of the grass gets cut at 1/2" while the rest of the lawn is at 4" due to the swath of the mower and I am not one to pull out another mower just to prevent this from happening. Many of my neighbors with zero turns do just that. The ones that don't get stuck a lot or rip up their grass trying to get unstuck.

On a completely different note.....I have been on this blue marble for quite some time, mowing lawns ever since the age of 10. This is the first year I have been alive to where I never stopped mowing through the months of Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb. What's up with that?

Naw, seriously. It wasn't just me. All of my neighbors were out mowing in January as well. This is not normal. Perhaps in Florida but definitely not around my neck of the woods. It's unheard of.

Well, until this year, that is.

Ha! You are right. My old front lawn at the townhouse was the same square footage as the footprint of my truck! LOL.

This one is definitely a little bit bigger but oh, so much more beautiful. Thousands of flowers that will bloom pretty much year round. We currently have about 6 or 7 things blooming with a boatload coming up. All of them perennials. I am about to take a wheelbarrow full of extra monkey grass and plant it next to young Aiden's new "fort" we built him in the backyard, complete with a carport for his battery powered ATV.

LMK when you are back in town!

We moved into our "last" home last Fall, I came from a 24'x36' separate shop/storage building to this 12'x13' space.

I put up a few shelves

    IMG_4445_zpsnv52yway.jpg

    Built a little work bench

Quite an adjustment from what I had before, but we have less "stuff" also!

Yes, they are actually built by Wright Standers, they are zero turn, it has a 48" deck and the mower itself is only 50" long. Maneuverability is something else, fun to run!
