SDA Addiction..

I do wish that someone here had warned me about SDA addiction. If they are not addictive then why is it that I have multiple sets of speakers and I always go back listening to the SDA's ? I cannot seem to quit listening to them and when I listen to others I cant wait to go back to them. Someone should warn those who have not been addicted that is why I posted this thread..A warning label should be mailed out or something..So, you have been duly warned about SDA speakers if you have done enough research to find this post. And by the way if you are thinking about buying or trying SDA,s don't do it, just IM me for disposal information I will send you an address to ship to or drop them off . Thank you. Currently listening to : SDA 2b, Tandberg 2080 for preamp use, Dynaco ST 70 (1960 production date).

Definitely have a hard time listening to a conventional 2 channel system over my SDA's.

Still haven't found anything that projects such a large, realistic soundstage. Only downfall is because of the way some material is recorded you can get some funky placements of instruments at times. But that's by far the exception.

Not sure if I would use the word "addiction" myself, but I am not currently nor will I be looking for new speakers anytime soon.

They are unique and if that's what you like, there is nothing else out there like them.

That's not to say they don't do other things very well. They have really clean, deep bass as well as great mids and very clean highs.

Blown away the other night (again) listening to "Friday Night In San Francisco" w/ Al DiMeola, Paco DeLucia and John McLaughlin. Just like I was there on stage.

It is an addiction, but fortunately, the only thing it can damage, if you allow it, is your wallet.

It is truely an addiction. I still have my first SDAs in a bedroom. Every now and then I think about going in for a listen but then think, "no, I better not" as I have pretty much gotten over the addiction. That and the thought I would probably spend the rest of the day and all night in there listening.

  • I have the 2bs I bought new in 88, for what was considered expensive at the time. I still have them and will probably never sell them.

What i cannot believe is how good they sound on this old tube amp at 30 watts per channel, if that.

Yep!! they could set you back a few coins, however they are worth every dime. The folks here know SDAs and what it takes to get the most out of them rock on...

Yeah, I love it!!! I really want a set of 2.3tl's but it really makes no sense with the money I have in invested in my 1.2tl's, and I'm loving 'em..

I would also like a set of SDA SRS 2's but again it would just be a drain on the wallet..

I will stay content with my 1.2tl's and CRS+'s..

What are the differences between the MW spacing for the SDA speakers? I read about the change from SDA tweeters to only one, but the spacing between the speakers varies as well. I think they were wider, and then moved to side by side, then back to wider. Are the SDA circuits different to account for this? Are their audible differences?

I'm not addicted, I just haven't found a speaker I like better overall...and I am saying this after 10 years of continuous electronics and cable upgrades (and 15 years of continuous SDA upgrades).

Drivers and tweeters are spaced for proper time alignment with regard to each other and for proper time alignment of the stereo and dimensional signals. The crossover circuits do play a role in time alignment.
