Justin,
Honestly don't have a clue what prompted this policy change, but I think we are going to need a little guidance here.

I agree...because ANY inanimate object can be a weapon. If I chuck my reciever at my roommate's head it was as weapon.
I guess i'm a little confused here. I recall one person starting a thread about a new firearm they had gotten...think it was Dr. Spec...but there was nothing bad about that discussion and it was a long time ago...

I think it was the Armor All thread when people starting talking about making bombs or whatever...
But here we are talking about it again... -

I never read that, sorry.
So I guess what i'm asking is can hunters talk about their new rifles and stuff?!
I think he should ban the people that say stuff about making bombs and stuff, but their isn't anything harmful about talking about weaponry at it's core.
Just don't want to see a bunch of people getting banned because of behavior that isn't really bad and making a mistake. -

that would be a good question...I would think that would be OK.
I think the intent here is just keep it clean, with the idea that most people should be able to read your thread without being offended or horrified. We probably don't have many children on here, so I don't think that's a huge issue.
We just gotta keep in mind that this is Polk's site and that it's public domain, so they gotta keep tabls on what's discussed here at least a little, for name's sake if nothing else.
I don't think it's just the Armor All thread, I've also noticed quite a bit more 'flaming' going on lately, but all that stuff just rools off my back, so I didn't pay it much attention until now...
Maybe Justing can step in for us and clarify...so I'll PM him... -
I agree - discussion about legal use of firearms in an appropriate context should be unrestricted. There are plenty of responsible gun owners, hunters, and shooters on Club Polk that I think would agree.
I didn't read that Armor All thread, but if it referred to the making of illegal explosives for any purpose, it should be deleted immediately. This forum is no place for that kind of talk."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

This forum started as an audio forum, and is headed back in that direction.
You want to talk guns, find a gun forum. Not singling gun owners out, there will be other topics banned and a few new rules set forth, as time allows.
Big changes are afoot, stay tuned. Forget the 'sensitive issue' posts, and talk audio - that's the best advice I can give.

The Off Topic Forum is defined as: "Not audio, everything else. Strap on your flame suit and wade into the fray. Try to keep it clean."
I don't get it.....care to share more about what prompted this change and who is the catalyst behind it?"What we do in life echoes in eternity"

Off topic is for everything NOT audio as I see it (per Polk). I agree with Doc. No reason we cannot talk guns and anything else Off-Topic as long as it's done with tact and class. There's plenty of other forum areas to discuss audio. Otherwise, delete the Off-Topic forum area.

I was about to link you to the now infamous Armor-All thread but it seems to have been deleted.
Anyways, somehow the discussion got turned into how to make explosives easily from everyday household items. I won't name names, but even without moderator intervention I feel this kind of conversation shows a poor level of maturity and tact. Draw your own conclusions. Someone else even suggested kindly to this person that they should remove this information but of course this person in their infinite wisdom disagreed.
A few bad apples will always ruin the bunch.
EDIT: and if i remember correctly this thread wasn't in the off-topic forum so this conversation was *really* in the wrong place. -
Hey, don't 'shoot' the messenger, I didn't make the rules, just relaying what a little birdy told me.
It's POLK's forum at the end of the day, they get to decide what is, and what isn't allowed. It's their grass roots, not yours or mine. It's their public image, not yours or mine. Don't like it? Tough, deal with it - or find somewhere else to discuss it.
I could care less on the gun and other 'touchy' issues. I'm just waiting for the babysitting to start, and certain individuals 'dealt' with accordingly.

I think it was the thought of using Armor-All on the polk speakers that put them over the edge.
THANKS MX...
I seriously think it is all the recent foul language and bomb making. This is not the place for that. It may just be the "bad intentioned" foul language more so than the ocasional foul word. The FU-Har post was WAY over the edge even though it may have been well deserved. Just my opinion though.

I'm not about to shoot anyone and I was not trying to single your comments out Russ. Just trying to make a point.
This forum, as with every other classy forum needs moderation. If Polk does not want threads to get out of hand, their gonna need heavier moderation. From now until the end of the net threads will get out of hand.
I noticed that there really is no moderation here unless things get really crazy, which it sounds like it did. Only then a mod jumps in locks things down and posts a sticky. Polk will have to do more to nip the threads in the butt before they get to that state. Or, assign some controls to some members here that can do that for them. It is done on many other forums I frequent works well.
Heck, I was involved in a few threads years ago that got heated and out of hand. Things like that will never change only the people involved in them.

Well these new changes are quite broad and without definition.
I have to agree with what Dr. Spec said. This is a community as defined by the people who inhabit it. There are rules and it is their message board. I think people are just merely asking for clarification.
Guns aren't the central issue at this board, but let's face it. Many of you guys have met and are lifelong pals. If you start looking at a firearm or something you're obviously going to ask the advice of the people you consider friends. I just don't see what's irresponsible about that.
And yes...they can stop us from doing it, but I think it's a bit trite and ridiculous. I guess my point is that maybe there could be more moderators that are here a lot. Maybe make some of you older regulars mods and delete the innapropriate talk rather than just ban any talk of weaponry.
I mean this is all over freakin' Armor All....not guys talkin' about shootin' something up. What's more harmful the responsible talk of guns and other weapons or the talk of dumbasses who want to make bombs out of cleaning products? I think any rationale person can differentiate between the two.
Will this new policy hurt the forums more than help it?! Not this initial one, but what you were talking about, Russman, has me a bit concerned.
And I respect the 'it's theirs and not ours' comment, but I just think people want to know why being off topic in an off topic forum is a bad thing...and why weapons are what is being singled out...even though it was an isolated incident... -

Guys, remember that the Armor All thread didn't start here, but in the speakers forum if I remember correctly...
The policy is a generalized statement about all the forums, but I'd still think that off topic stuff is suitable for this forum...
Again, I think the basic intent is to just keep it clean, suitable for most readers... -

Ah...didn't know that either.
Why, then was the weapon talk banned in general in this forum then? -
The sticky is posted on ALL forums, so ALL can read it...
It isn't nessicarily banning it here........
I doubt they care what you talk about here, as long as you're not plotting some scheme.....lol- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Seriously, the above discussion is why I raised the thread. Wasn't sure folks would catch the new sticky topic.
Personally, I don't see the need for the changes, but we will need to know if we can type:

etc., etc., etc.More later,

I wouldn't have noticed it. I usually just do the search for new posts when I come and stickies don't show up when you do that. -
