Here's a bound rosewood on maple Fender neck. 1966 Coronado II.

I've never seen/played one of those. Very interesting! What size is the body, D-35ish?
Thanks for sharing. -
Yep, it's essentially a big dreadnaught with a modified 63 Strat neck bolted to it.
The copper pipe you see connects the neck block to the tail block, which keeps everything rigid.
Most bolt on acoustics eventually fold in on themselves and the action get really high.
This thing plays like a dream and has loads of bass............and did I mention that you can intonate the saddles ? -
Very cool!
Ahhh! I see the unique bridge and saddles in this pic from Gruhn.
Some long neck bolts, eh?
-
Yep, the screws are quite long, but I've never had to tighten them up at all.
The cool thing about intonatable saddles, is that you can run an unwound G string for blues bending and still keep the guitar intonated correctly.
Johnny Cash had a black Fender King.
Later, they changed the name to Kingman. -
This thread was originally supposed to be an 80's thread, so let me dig deep into the guitar pic archives and pick out one of my 80's treasures.
Here's an 80's Kramer aluminum neck bass, with ebonite (bowling ball material) fretboard.
Heavy as all hell.

And another:
This was hand made by a machinest in NH out of aluminum.
-
One more:
This is a matching pair of Fender (early 80's) Squire Bullets
-
Oh hell, why not another ?
I had this custom made from a fellow luthier buddy.
It had a scalloped fretboard and EMG's

Frick, I'm a drummer and I'm sportin' wood....Nice axes's fellas..

Those pictures are all past aquisitions.
I have a disc with about 250 more on it and those are only the ones I remembered to take photos of.
That's how I learned to fix guitars, by hitting flea markets and pawn shops for 30 years and picking up guitars that needed to be saved.
In my hey day, I'd buy up 3 or 4 a week.
The internet killed all of that.
Now everyone has a cell phone and looks up info to gauge their prices by.
Good for them..........not so good for guys like me.
I concentrate on fixing them now, rather than heading out to the hunt.
I do miss the thrill of the chase though.........

Hell, nobody's here tonight, so I'll post another wacky guitar or two:

Just finished assembling this bad boy !
This is from the same guy that I've built the last 10 or so Van Halen copies for.
I believe he called it "The Neptune Guitar"
