Polk Monitor 10B drivers needed

where I stand so far, 2 woofers repaired/glue reinforced, Dacron tacked back up where it belongs, 2 new MW6503's on their way from Polk. Someone suggested replacing the tweeters and having the xo's redone. the tweets are SL2000's, should they be replaced? Everything looks original. Should the xo's be redone? Thanks for any advice!

The 194s are great tweeters, but the 198s are even better.

thanks westmassguy, sounds like the 198's are the more interesting option, I've always liked noticeable highs.
Is it best to get the tweets from Polk?
Is there a thread on the xo's? does anyone around here rebuild/service the xo's?
any idea why it's called the 'TL' mod?
I've done some electrical/electronic work in my time, but might be interested in having someone take care of it, depending on what's involved.
Thanks!! -
The tweeters are available directly from Polk, same place you ordered the Woofers. Same price, with the Club Polk Discount.
It's called the TL mod, because the last tweeters that Polk developed for that era were the SL3000 Tri-Laminate Tweeters. Some earlier Monitors, RTAs and SDAs can be modified.
Look in the Schematics/Non SDA in this section. Find "schematic_m10_rev", and "schematic_m10_sl3000mod". Your 10s should match the 1st schematic, and the TL Mod is the 2nd.
There are several members who can do the crossovers for you.Home Theater/2 Channel:

that it is! I've learned a bunch in a short time from hear and another forum. this is a homecoming for me of an old hobby. I've got my 2 sons interested big time in putting something together for them to have in college.

You've come to the right place. My Son is getting a restored pair of Monitor 7s if and when he ever graduates, and gets his own place.Home Theater/2 Channel:

I just checked my closet stash and thought I had what you needed. To bad it's a #6502 reading 4ohms w/ a gasket ring on already

Of course I forgot something. Is anyone interested in making an even trade for the #6502 of mine for a #6511 dimensional driver that went deadsville on me. I already called Polk and they have about 153 in stock but if a trade is worthy then lets do it.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

6503's arrived today. install hopefully tonight. keep you posted.

well....my wife unit is upset with me. the Polks sound good, damn good, better than the Infinities that are in the living room, problem is she likes the way the Infinities look. That's one I have to deal with.
Question, has everyone been epoxying/gluing the new 6503's or is that problem solved all these years later?
Now looking to explore the 'TL' mod that I've been told about.
also am going to need to decide weather to refinish the cabinets or just have a hell of a garage system. decisions, decisions.
everyone really helped me get this going a lot faster than I thought possible.
Thanks!! -

Looks are irrelevant; wifes are irrelevant. Resistance to Polk is futile!

I'm in a similar position as you. I got mine a year ago and finally now decided to do a crossover upgrade although I think they sound fantastic. I decided to go with the drop in replacement upgrade instead of changing the crossover. A member of this forum identified a capacitor for me in the crossover, but it doesn't have a value. From the schematic I believe this to be the 12uF mylar cap (in my case big blue ksc 126k 250v).
Can someone verify this please so I can go ahead and order parts.?Thanks.

there is a guy in the audiokarma forum that provided me with a link to the schematics. turns out all the info is posted here on the Polk forum.
