To my ears and with my taste, I prefer to use an eq with the 2.3 tl's. BUT, I am not an expert audio dude by no means, just a big fan and 18 year owner of SDA SRS 2.3tl's.
I tend to like my bass and treble to be a bit more than it was when not using an eq.
Your thoughts? opinions? or facts are welcome?

The air leaks thing is often overlooked.
I bought a pair of 2.3TLs from a member here that sounded good but were just a bit shy in the bass.
Once I got into refurbishing them, I discovered that they both had corners out of square that had opened up gaps in the top ends that were hidden externally by the endcaps.
Once I found those, I inserted glue into the gaps, clamped them up to true up and close up the gaps and then reinforced all of the internal seems with Loctite Powergrab.
Once that was done, there was a considerable increase in bass response.
Make sure you do the push test (gently press in and hold the passive radiator...make sure the drivers take several seconds or more to return to their resting position...if they return quickly, there is very likely an air leak)."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

When I got my 2.3TL's, they were shy in the bass department. After upgrading the XO's with new boards, caps and resistors, bass response improved dramatically. What really made a huge difference was using a dedicated 2 channel pre-amp and taking the AVR out of the picture for music. The 2.3's came alive in an astounding way once they were allowed full access to the music without any AVR funny business in between. Spike them or put them on granite. Make sure they are properly configured in your room with 6 to 8 inches of space (adjust based on your room and your ears) between the back of the speakers and the wall and you'll notice some serious improvements.____________________________________________________________
