Your thoughts on EQ's with SDA SRS 2.3tl

I am just curious of you guys opinions on using an eq with SDA speakers. I have tried them without an eq, and with one. To my ears and with my taste, I prefer to use an eq with the 2.3 tl's. BUT, I am not an expert audio dude by no means, just a big fan and 18 year owner of SDA SRS 2.3tl's.
I tend to like my bass and treble to be a bit more than it was when not using an eq.
Your thoughts? opinions? or facts are welcome?

OH GOD
NOT the EQ question
You KNOW you're about to start a HUGE debate!!

For music? No thanks. For movies and video games? I like to bump the bass up a smidge, not a ton.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

I don't want to start any drama, not my intention. Every ear is different, and everybody is different. Just looking for peoples thoughts and opinions on the subject and why you do or do not like to use an eq

Phase shift, distortion, and noise are just a few of the "benefits" of your typical Graphic Equalizer. 2.3tls should not need any bass boost. What are you powering them with?
They're 25 years old, and due for some upgrades. New Tweeters and Crossover Upgrades can make a dramatic difference. Room placement, and room treatments should be considered also.Home Theater/2 Channel:

EQ's or tone controls, I have no use for either. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.
It is imperative that we recognize that an opinion is not a fact. -

These are side effects of EQ done in the ANALOG domain. Not EQ done in the DIGITAL domain. -

Trey and I both carry the boards. Tony doesn't sell them directly.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Oh yeah Sorry
So is it JUST the circuit board with no parts?
What is the difference between Gimpods board and the standard ones? -

AFTER you've got the speaker, the room, and speaker/listener positions sorted out, if you need additional signal modification you can add a decent-quality equalizer that is in good condition.

The design and quality is in a different league. Tony made them twice the size, laid out perfectly for large metalized polypropylene caps, and mills resistors. Copper foil is heavier as well.

I'd like to,but right now I am seriously overextended. This will be a project for the future.I just was curious, because I keep seeing posts about upgrading these old speakers.

I replaced the tweeters around 10 years ago with 3000sl's. I am powering them currently with a Yamaha MX-D1. They were powered with a Yamaha MX-1000, but it had a stroke and is in need of repair/reconditioning.

The 2.3TL came with SL3000's. What was in yours before you changed them?

They had 3000sl's in them. 3 were in need of replacement "2 blown and one out of spec" I just replaced them all and put up the 3 good ones for spares.
-
Ok, just checking that you didn't actually have the 2.3's.
As for your EQ question. You should not need one. The SL3000's are "brighter" than the RD0198-1 replacements, so if you feel the top end isn't making your ears bleed as is, then you don't want the RD0198-1 dispite it being a vastly superior tweeter. Lack of bass could be many things. You don't have them spiked, too far out from the back wall, air leaks, crossovers needs upgrading, amp isn't a high current design, room issues, etc.Political Correctness'.........defined

I do need to spike them. I got the spikes a couple years ago, but life got in the way before I could install them. I will locate the spikes and install them soon. Thanks for the reminder. I would like to try out the rdo-198's at some point. I could always sell them if I do not like the change. From what I read, most like them. I probably would too.
-
I also plan to get the driver rings and tweeter brackets next time they are available. That should help as well.
-
There's a basic to do list that will improve the sound quality beyond what you probably think is possible.
Tweeters
Crossover Upgrades
Spikes
Rings or Hurricane Nuts
The Dreadnought with high quality cable
High quality speaker cable/IC's
