Once I cut back on sugars and sodas, I started to feel less out of sorts during the day. I like the protein bars and shakes. I've noticed that my knees and shoulders don't ache as much. I take about a two mile walk in the evenings as well. Helps me wind down instead of just going straight for someones throat..

Fixed that for ya Russ. lol

We both work outside so I understand the aches. Sugar is an inflammatory, that's why when you cut back you'll feel the difference on those joints. Also benefits those with some arthritis which at our older ages is certainly starting to creep up.

Smoking is still the one habit I need to dump....problem is I like it too much. It relaxes me, and I haven't found a replacement that will do the same thing and not be as harmful. I'm just afraid if I quit straight up, I'd have to join the cage fighting circuit to get my aggravations out.

10-4 on the smoking part, Tony. I know it's bad but I like it. Funny fixed it, BTW. I do have that urge occasionally.

I don't take anything. I'm 5'11 and about 175 with a 36 waist. I don't workout. Although I have a almost 3 yr old and a 4.5 yr old in the house. Oh and I'll be 41 in 5 months. I drink one to two cups of tea a day the rest is water. I don't drink any alcohol during the week. On weekends my wife and I might finish a bottle on Friday and another on Sat night. We might also have a bit more tea (as we have time). We don't eat fast food. my kids have no idea what the golden arches are all about, they've never been. We make all their snacks from scratch every weekend. Start my day off with PB toast and cup of tea. snack is usually rice pudding or cottage cheese with grapes. Ill eat some berries before lunch. lunch is usually a wrap with hummus, oven roasted meat (usually turkey or chicken) with some cheese and lettuce. I'll eat veggies in the pm and at about 230 I'll eat an apple. dinners are made from scratch 98% time and we are currently using meal ideas from healthykids.com (trying to sneak in more veggies in their diet) Although they do eat lots of them already.
yes I know I should workout at least cardio, but being up at 430 every am and leaving the house at 645 doesn't give me time. I don't have time at lunch and once the kids are asleep 7-730, I'm in no mood to leave the house. Oh and I don't smoke, quit in 2001.

If I woke up at that time Willow, I'd be DEAD in two-three days! lol No need to worry about working out, I'd feel like s*** for the rest of the day, not wanting to do ANYTHING! Don't know how you guys do that. I'm convinced that some people's metabolisms are just NOT morning friendly, and others are "naturally" let's "get up and go!". Seen too many examples of you early boys and girls.

As for those above who are still smoking, well, that's not good. I've lost a two or three cousins to cigarettes! Never smoked myself. And yeah, if you're taking a drag on a cig you are NOT allowed to report that your weight is stable or normal, because we all know what happens to people who stop smoking until they get their diet back under control-most GAIN some weight!

On the other hand, one year in Beijing is probably the equivalent of five years of smoking? lol

I'm an early bird too my Greek friend. Used to get up at 3, be at work by 4:30, home by 6. All outdoors, rain/shine/snow or heat. Your body takes a beating in those conditions as Russ is finding out also.

Problem is, I'm not working anymore and I still get up at 4. That's what my body clock says I need to do. Don't know how to reset that darn thing either.

Part of feeling good at an older age is simply knowing your body. Nobody knows it better than you, not even your doc. Arthritis is one of those things anyone can get, even younger guys/gals. It's an inflammatory process so the common sense thing to do is cut down on foods that also cause inflammation in your body. I know, easier said than done but sooner or later you won't have a choice. There is no miracle pill, shake, diet, that will stand the test of time over healthy eating/drinking. Too many though want the easy way out, or what appears to be anyway without having to change habits. That only covers up the underlying problems for so long before it manifests itself into new problems and then they run for the pharmaceuticals.

All I'm sayin' is, listen to your body when it starts telling you something is wrong. I have a feeling everyone knows what that is, you just have to make a conscious decision to do something about it. Inject a little common sense is all.

I like beer. Wheat beer, you know, cause it's a grain. And grain is good for you, right?

Tony hit it. Pushing 50 here. Still feel good and have a sexy six pack of abs :s . I've met guys younger who looked on the verge of organ failure. Diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. Some is genetics, most is lifestyle. I cut back on the bad habits once I realized I was on that path. Take my old man vitamins and stopped chasing younger women. Especially after they started yelling "StrangerDanger!!" as I approached.
Settled down and feeling good. Just take the normal wear and tear in stride.
I can still kick Tony's and Constantine's arse, too!

I got that going on now.
I wake up every single damn day at 5am. Leave the house for work at 6am and get to work around 7am, it's about a 40 to 60 min travel depending on traffic.
On weekends I wake up at 5am and try to lay there and get in some extra sleep, doesn't happen often. Sometimes if I get up , go to the bathroom and then lay back down, I might be able to get in another hour.
On weekends for me is Saturday Sunday and Monday, I work 4 day weeks 10+ hours a day. On those mornings is my gym time. I go to the gym at 9 and leave by 10ish. My workouts don't take more then 45 mins to an hour max. This is how I get in my 3 days a week.
Now what I try to do is get in 1 day during the week but most of the time I'm pretty beat after those long work days. Gas tank is low and all I want to do is go home and relax. Working out is the last thing I want to do.
My job for the last 3 years now as been Service. I no longer Install. So I'm driving and running all day I usually have 4 appointments. And as this I walk a lot up and down stairs all day long. I do however drive probably about 4 to 5 hours a day as well.
So with that in mind I pack a lunch every day and I might eat out once a week. I drink water all day long and eat light small meals.

Getting older sucks and as far as inflammation goes I had it in my wrist where years ago I injured it with a drill drilling huge chase holes and the drill got caught and twisted me up a bit. years laster after this I started to get pain back in my wrist. Doctor told me it was inflammation and I was on anti flammatory and theopy for 6 weeks.

Took resveratrol for the past few years, and seemed to feel a significantly positive difference. Recently subscribed to a year's worth of "Basis" by Elysium Health. Just started taking it - we'll see. I'm in my mid-50s.

Yeah, your Body will BETRAY you sooner or later, many think we're slowly dying biological machines. The problem with that? It doesn't matter if they're right because you get to watch yourself rot? Hmmm, wish I was as smart as those who KNOW such THINGS! UNFORTUNATELY, I'm with Socrates there. So much the worse for me!

True Tony. I apprenticed under an Italian. Dude was well into his 70's. Didn't look a day over 40. Said his wife would do the full meal at night with a flask of red. As far as I know he's about 107 and still kicking arse.

....and always salad too pal. The wine and the salad are good for the digestion which is why those old Italian dudes thrive. Pay attention to your elders folks, they've been around the block a time or 2 and know a few things you won't get on google or Facebook.

  • I started vaping a year ago, quit cigarettes and dip is a seldom enjoyed treat. This is a speedy hobby as well though, but all I've learned about conductivity, wire, and the importance of clean contact from yall has been helpful in getting the most out of it. Who'da thunk knowing about skin effect, and running wired in parallel would be relevant outside of the world of wiring things up.

Interesting to see all the different "lifestyles" with various results. One thing I heard on a tv show some time ago that has stuck with me and for the most part we stick to it is...eat foods that will spoil. Get rid of the preservatives and the refined sugars and you are well on your way to feeling better.

Gotta have the exercise too...I don't enjoy working our but I do cut a fair amount of firewood through the year along with frequent hikes...works for me. My B-I-L is the same age as me(pushing 60 damn it!) but lives an almost opposite lifestyle...and you can tell!

I'm hoping some new cables help to lower by blood pressure even more :)
