    Wishing you well, Tony.

If the VA has you on just oral antibiotics, it's time to switch to a PICC line and some industrial grade antibiotics.
Combo of vancomycin and cefepime via a PICC line does wonders for some very, very nasty foot infections. Did I mention VERY, VERY nasty foot infections ?
Haven't had any experience with RESTORE, but the medical product Regranex is extremely effective. And extremely expensive, probably because it's made out of baby foreskins. The VA may not offer that.
Once a wound starts to heal up, the wound dressing Promogran is very effective, and can be bought off of Amazon or Ebay. Insurance pays a lot for Promogran, but the Amazon/Ebay offerings come from Canada so it is inexpensive; $7.00 per dressing.

In any event, I wish you well. Plug & chug, and question everything your doctors tell you.

I doubt they would put him on oral abx if it's osteomyelitis. Standard of care is IV abx via a picc line for weeks. I would not jump straight to vanco and cefepime, there are other combinations based on the resistance pattern and the exact organism. A blanket statement like vanco+cefepime is foolish - similar to just saying everyone on club polk should have SS amplifiers because it is what sounds better.

I would question the doctors, but also know that these infectious disease doctors know far more than even I. No harm in questioning but do not be antagonizing. We are only trying to help.

Doctors are human, but they are well trained. If you think that you can direct your care based on what you read on the internet rather than trusting an infectious disease specialist who went through 4 years undergrad, 4 years med school, 3 years internal medicine residency, and 3 years infectious disease subspecialization with probably a research year in there who has reviewed articles, done journal clubs, and completes yearly CME and is board certified... then that's on you.

Question AND be proactive about your care. Ask lots of questions, but understand that the majority of doctors want you to get better and are well trained to do so.

There are exceptions... as in everything in life.
