trouble w/ HDMI inputs

I have for a few days now to run my Denon cdp into my Yamaha RX-V665 which it has always resided. My Denon has both analog RCA ins and a HDMI in so I can use either my 2 chl or the H/T. I tried going from HDMI 1 and nothing, I do get the HDMI icon in red but nothing out of the avr. HDMI #2 is used for my Blu/Ray and that worked fine and tried and also n.g.. Now I tried HDMI #3 still nothing out of the avr sound wise. I then switched off the avr ,went to my 2 chl and the cdp is playing fine. I already switched cables no joy there so either the HDMI is somehow beat (can't see it if blu/ray works or the HDMI on the Denon is beat. I'm going to call Yamaha later to see what's up. As already told by me I do not go directly from t.v. into the avr. Instead I go from t.v. to cable box and then from cable box via RCAs to the avr to have both t.v. on and listen to tunes at the same time. Who needs commentary for Nascar or tennis.

Did you set up the inputs on the receiver ? You have to tell it how to process the signal it gets for every input. Probably the same with the audio output on the cdp. Some gear will allow you to use both HDMI and rca outputs at the same time, some won't.HT SYSTEM-

Yes and a new important fact. Yamaha's service used to be 24/7 and now not on weekends and kinda have banker hours. In the mean time I forgot that blu/rays on my Toshiba played CDs and they played fine on HDMI #2. Now w/my amazing powers of deduction let me try # 3 again now w/ the Denon and it worked fine. I can't explain it, maybe by me messing w/ the rack so many times the cables were not seated just right but it seems ok for now. After putting in the pads I have nothing else to touch and I will leave well enough alone for now. Tony I will call Yamaha when they are in but I think all my HDMI ports are active.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Just to follow up on this no interest thread. I did call Yamaha yesterday and after being on hold for what seemed like 5 hours I finally get to a tech. I explained that port #1 of the HDMI was not happening and the icon was there then gone then reappearing then gone and no music. Port #2 where I have my blu/ray worked fine both for video and regular CDs. Port # 3 worked. He did you change cables and I said yes I had a brand spanking new one, and then he said your Denon is not the problem and there is something wrong w/ the #1 HDMI port and if I have 3 others that work use them. Thanks a lot jack off , after waiting all that time I already figured that out.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Ok just saw this thread and I got a few things to say.
First off Cd players do not have HDMI in and analog in. Unless it's a Writable CDP then there will be no analog in. If it had HDMI then it would be an out not an in.
With Yamaha receiver with HDMI 1 2 and 3 you have to assign them to an input in the menu setup. This is why I bet HDMI 1 doesn't work right.
Also the quality of HDMI cables you use will determine if they are going to work or not. Buy cheap cables and broken ones and trouble shooting in in your very near future. Good luck with all that if that is true in your case.
I just also looked at your signature , I don't see a Denon CDP as I'm curious to see this CDP with HDMI anything on it.
