Speaker cable question

Seems like a lot people in here like MIT cables. What improvements can I expect if moving from Signal Ultra speaker cable to MIT shotgun 1.3? Thanks.

That's a big leap, not even comparable. The S1's are going to walk all over the Signals by no small margin.

These demo reviews may give you some idea. The Shotgun 1.3 nets improvements in the bass verses the 3.3.

A WHOLE LOT....Signal ultras are just two Canare 4s6 or 4s8 star quad's in flex wrap....

by the way I use the Signal ultra's and just noticed that they are Canare because I just had to terminate and pulled back the flex to see just what it was inside. I just went ahead and ordered more Canare 4S11 as that is what my inter-connect SDA cable is made of so might as well match B)

I found Signal Ultras to be a little bright in a system I was testing, consisting of a B&K Reference 5 pre, Parasound amp, Squeezebox Touch, and some Monitor 10's. I was using Monoprice interconnects.

I took advantage of the offers in the MIT Clearance Center and ordered a set of Shotgun S3 speaker cables and S3 interconnects. The cables you're looking at are even better than what I have.

Bass noticeably more apparently, to the point that I had to zero the tone controls, whereas before I had the bass bumped a touch.
Improved clarity, especially noticeable in the lack of congestion at higher listening levels.
Improved articulation - instruments came in and out more cleanly.
Echoey chick singer voices and instruments seemed to hang and fade beautifully.

Those are some of the things I noticed during the first week. The only things I changed in the system during that time were the speaker cables and the IC's between the preamp and amp. I was a bit of a cable skeptic before that. I wouldn't call the improvements subtle.
    I disabled signatures.

I went from MITs back to Audioquest Rocket 44s.

what was the reason you went back?
  • I busted a spade off one of the wires and I haven't fixed it yet. :)
These are monster cables. If setup doesn't lend to that...

Brian, have you been in the cable game, or are you just curious about MIT?

Nope. I've been using only Blue Jean and Signal cables

What gear are you going to put it on? It might be overkill. I use the Shotgun S1.3 XLR interconnects in my HT, and they work great. They used to be in my stereo, and were a huge step up from the Kimber Kable Heros XLR they replaced.

Thanks! This is going to be on my main rig: Ayon Tritton 3 + Dynaudio C4. I currently use Harmonic Tech Magic Link 2 from the Benchmark DAC to the Ayon.

MIT clearance center will get you nice speaker cables and interconnects for up to 70% off. Every Tuesday they have new sales, I would be a little patient and shop there. I got magnum interconnects for a little under 300 bucks, and most recently shot gun s1 speaker cables for around 500. DO IT :)
