That's pretty amazing to a guy like me!

I have trouble patching the 4"x4" holes my daughters have on occasion made in the walls of their rooms!

Looks like a major accomplishment to me! :)

Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

    @afterburnt,

    LOL

    No, not rollerbladers.

One time the older one returned from the beach having remained in the relatively cold water too long, suffered hypothermia, fell into a chair, which fell into the wall and made a hole that I had to patch.

Then, she wanted to remove a non-working intercom pad in her condo, which left a hole of about 4"x4" to patch.

The younger daughter had a guest in her apartment who banged a suitcase into the wall and made a "dimple" that required a patch of about 4"x4."

The best one, however, I cannot attribute to either daughter. Unbeknownst to my wife and me, a nest of wasps set up housekeeping in the attic space above our guest room.

Eventually I saw a stain on the ceiling. When I gently pocked it, the wall board disintegrated to my touch, and the wasps poured out through the hole. That was an event to be remembered! After a visit from the exterminator and clean up, I had a 12"x12" hole to patch.

As a former drywaller (summers in college) we would definitely have called that "lots of funky angles" - which was not a compliment for the job to be done - nice work! It pays to do it right to start!

Kev I gotta admit, with no more experience than you described, that is magnificent work.

One thing I know is if you screw up drywall finishing and it drys, you have a hell of a mess and a lot of work to make it right.

    You should be rightfully proud.

Good looking work ! I don't mind the tape-block-skim part too much, it's the sanding that really bugs me ! You know about the light bulb trick, right ? ;)

All too well. I am a bit of a detail freak to begin with. Last night I went on a major sanding tear in the audio room. Sanding sucks. All my taping was the adhesive mesh type, which you get used to. I dont have the patience to learn the paper tape.
Fighting the urge to say F it and just roll on a texture....but ......must.....resist.....

Your a better man than me Kev. My patience level is like zero for sanding drywall.

I'm the type who would make a mistake, and buy a bigger screen TV to hide it.

    I dont encourage it unless:
    a. you do it for a living
    b. you have severe ocd and control issues, as I do.
    c. you have no life so you can spend all your free time working on, which somewhat applies to me

Yep, rip that puppy off, wet the sh$t out of it first. Let it all dry and start sanding. Wallpaper was sent to us by the devil himself.

After you rip the paper off, re wet it with a spray bottle and use a scraper to get the glue off. You can use regular water but they make better stuff to use you can get at any Home depot.

Actually, 50/50 mix of water and vinegar works great.

Yeah. No. The time, effort and money that went into that wall covering doesn't dictate it's being stripped any time in the near future. Thanks, though. LOL

You can try some glue and a seam roller, but most likely won't look too keen. Wall paper has a shelf life, most don't realize, and when it's done, it's done. Putting it on is a pita and so is taking it off.

I had one room in my house I removed the wall paper on, a good sized bedroom. Only, found out the hard way the previous owner had just wall papered over the previous paper......3 times. Talk about a pita.

Good old paint works best imho, plus there's so much you can do with paint too.

I bought a house with so-called "strippable" wallpaper once in my life. The wallpaper, in my wife's vernacular, was appropriate for a dentist's office, or as my secretary once described fabric for drapes, "dead birds."

I managed to live with it for a couple of months, but came home from work one night and just started pulling it off the walls -- living room, dining room, entry hall, study.

The stripping was a piece of cake. What I didn't realize was that the glue does not come off with the wallpaper.

Oh my God, what a mess!

After much spraying of water with a hand-pump sprayer and scraping with a taping knife, I finally got the glue off in about a month.

That is one thing I shall never -- ever -- do again.

I'm convinced that wallpaper was created as a punishment for something. I have no idea what for, but it must be a mortal sin of some sort!

LOL! Actually..... some people resort to using a special, 1/4" thick drywall and special screws to laminate a new wall surface onto old, papered or just plain rough walls. "Clean slate" so to speak. ;)

Had I known about that, or if it had been available at the time, I likely would have taken that route.

But, c'est la vie! I did what was necessary at the time.

By the way, the ceilings were also a textured plaster of sorts, which my wife disliked so much that she spent an incredible amount of time rubbing the texture out with a wet sponge.

Why did we buy that house? I don't know. It was on a nice little lake, and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

We rented a wallpaper steamer years ago to remove wallpaper. Heated water tank, hose and wand. Don't know if they're still available but worked like a charm.
