Normally, I love the sound of crickets doing stridulation. But, in this case it's a dissapointment.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

The "lightning bugs" are back as of a week or so ago and increasing in number in northern New England -- based on last year, they'll peak late June/early July. This was last July (past peak); gonna be ready for their flashy little bottoms this year!

Seriously? I haven't seen ONE lightning bug in over twenty years. I honestly thought they were dying out! They seemed much more abundant when I was young, many decades ago!

At my old house that backed up to a large cornfield, there were some summer nights where they would just come off the leaves in wave after wave. Never really had a chance to shot pics but was an amazing sight.

Hate to continue to hijack this thread but there are numerous articles that ask the question "Where have the Fireflies gone"? Seems to be some agreement that their numbers have/are dwindling. I haven't seen ONE on my lot in Maine since I bought the house 15 years ago! Nothing. Flies, spiders, mosquitoes, sure (even some bees but fewer and fewer)!

I have a little more than a 1/3 of an acre here with a line of trees at the back of the lot. I even have a resident groundhog and squirrels galore! Birds? All kinds. I'm NOT a birder so can't differentiate many of them-guess I'm not a hip Dude? Just a Dude!

Well, Maine is the setting for most Steven King novels. The poor fireflys booked out of state.

Since I work with a large percentage of people from India or China, I have said for years that the citizenship test should include questions about the Three Stooges. :)

Yes, except some might equate them to the people in Washington.

A lot of firefly habitat in what is now suburbia was literally paved (or built) over.

The Stooges Three may have been involved. Or perhaps Iggy Pop.
