    Yes. They do sound better in mono. Mono recordings that were remastered for stereo also sound better when using the mono feature.

    I remember one or two of the first Beatles lp's were in Mono! All___ of the older stuff was in mono and I didn't start seeing stereo lp's kick in til around '58 or '59?

    I thought this was about solid state pre's but if its changed to tubes then..... Why no mention of a Cary spl03? I was able to get ahold of a Cary 200.2 @the same time and they had great synergy #emowetdreamo

    Unfortunately, the SLP 03 has been discontinued by Cary and is something of a Unicorn on the used market because of the price/to performance it offers.
    I was lucky enough to get one BNIB that Cary transferred the warranty to me for free for just over $1k. It also has a set of Mullard tubes in it instead of the stock EH 12AU7s.
    But it is a fantastic pre and if you can find one, they usually go pretty cheap. It has HT bypass and a typical Cary sound.

    I thought the slp 03 was replaced with the all SS unit, SL-100. In any event, if it still carries the typical Cary sound, I'd bite on one.

    Thanks for all the help guys. I have decided what I'm getting but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I need to add some shelves and get some IC's. I'll probably order it next week.

    Can't wait to get this and get it hooked up! I'll start a new thread and let you know how it goes and what I think. B)

    Ok, I've made up the mockup preamp out of cardboard and added a shelf. Had to get a smaller/shorter storage drawer for the bottom so I can store LP stuff and some SACD's. Damn this preamp I'm getting is wider then anything else I have (18.5") but will fit just fine. All came out good and it's going to look good and organized too.

    To be honest this part of adding a new component is one of the fun parts of this hobby. Now all I gotta do is order the preamp and the IC's. I'll do that tomorrow. I almost changed my mind on the preamp but went back to the one I think will workout the best for me. ;)

    Yes I agree Tony. I was hoping for more feedback but if you dig deep in some of the other forums I got a lot of good feedback. It also had a lot to do with the company's reputation too. I like new technology and all the others had been out for a few years. Not saying that's bad thing.

    Yes this may be somewhat of a crap shoot but I had to trust my gut, the company and all the great reviews on past pre's they have made.

    This is just the beginning for this model. Rogue is coming out with a RP-3 and a fully balanced RP-7 using this same platform.

    Hope I didn't screwup but I don't think I did. ;)
