    So how do you connect the PC to the Fire wirelessly? Meaning, is there software to be installed on the PC that talks to the fire through the router? Once the communication is made, the fire takes control of all audio out?

    Now we are making headway!!

    I understand how the Sonos works with its software but the Fire is vague or maybe im looking in the wrong spot.
    Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!

    Plex software can also be used on the fire tv and installed on your pc for free. Although it does not give info on any file conversion that may be taking place.However, It does work very well and sounds quite good. Very easy to use as well.

    In plex you click on settings in the Web browser on the server pc), then one of the tabs (at the top right) shows all the streaming in process. You can go there to check for file format etc...

    FYI the spotify app on the Fire TV is currently broken and Amazon is working on an update to resolve the issue. Just in case you go that route, its been broke for a couple of days. If I were a bettin man I would bet that Amazon is getting a similar Spotify app as the one that was just released on the PS3 last week. It is a much nicer app and I hope that is what is happening.

    Weird... mine has been working all morning. At least on that end, hehe. Maybe that was the cause for it not showing up as a 'connect to' device from PC app?

    Not sure. I have three fire tv devices and connect doesn't work on any at this point. Normally there is no problem. I contacted Amazon support and was informed that the issue is known, being resolved, and an update will be performed shortly.

    You can plug the fire tv into the hdmi input of the avr or the tv. The fire tv also has an optical out if you need it. The fire tv "stick" does not have an optical out, however.

    Thanks, kind of an important detail that I left out, hehe. I run the HDMI to the Oppo and optical to the W4S dac on the music rig.

    There is but im too lazy to drive the 9 miles down the road. Amazon can deliver to my doorstep tomorrow. You see, i sit in my car for 3 hours a day and going out of my way is a no no. Less steering wheel time makes me a happier person.

    Well, let me tell you how truly disappointed i am right now. My phone will not connect using the Spoitfy App. Just goes into an endless loop and says Hmmm there is a problem.

    My computer will not even recognize the Fire on the same network. Im going to keep digging into that part as to why this is happening. Some firewall/network setting...???

    I can hot swap between my phone and computer just fine. Why i would want to do that is beyond me but i can. :|

    Like i said, i won't discount it just yet as i've only had it for an hour but i get frustrated easily.

    Not at the OP per say, it's just that these are the aggravations I'm talking about that will emphasize your inner Norman Bates tendencies when you just want stuff to work.

    Nothing aggravates me more than digital that's a pain to operate or setup. I don't want to be a babysitter to it either.

    Spotify too was always spotty when I used it. Rhapsody has always been rock solid for me.....and Tidal is going down the tubes quick judging by some stories I've read.

    That said, I do hope the Fire stick eventually works out for you. It is a cheap alternative, one of them anyway. Good luck to you, hopefully Dskip will get you straightened out with it.

    @mrbiron, not sure if it's been brought up here before, but I believe a Premium Spotify account is required to connect.

    Edit: FWIW, I am still able to connect to FireTV Spotify from iphone 6 and PC Spotify standalone app. I don't think it's possible to connect from Mac or PC browser player.
