Monitor 10 Crossover differences?

So, I just picked up some 10A's with the Peerless tweets. What is the difference in crossovers between the 10's, 10A's, 10B's? I picked up another set of crossovers that are labeled just '10', but look/are the same as the 10A's. Did the 10's and 10A's both come with peerless tweeters? And what is the difference between the crossovers that used the SL2000's? Peerless?
I looked at the schematics and not much of a difference. Hard to tell what is what because both of them just say Monitor 10. And one of the schematics just says 'tweeter'.
Thanks!!

The one that says "tweeter" is your speaker with the MW6501 drivers, not the MW6503 that the SL2000 version uses. That said, you should always check the actual crossover for the values.Political Correctness'.........defined

Okay, good to know. Is the 'tweeter' the Peerless? Were there only two different crossover versions used in the 10's?
Thanks F1 for the help!Post edited by Nules75 onOn the losing end of a wishbone and I won't pretend not to mind... -
Yes, that would be the Peerless.
I believe there was a Rev. 2 for the SL2000 version.Political Correctness'.........defined

Interesting.....upon looking at my drivers they are MW6500's. Now I remember why I was confused with the crossover schematics! Were/are the 6500 and 6501's interchangeable? On the losing end of a wishbone and I won't pretend not to mind...

My 10's that I bought new in 1979 have the 6500's. I believe the 6501 replaced the 6500's at some point. They have Peerless tweeters and the fused crossover - no poly switch. After Polk stopped using Peerless tweeters they went to the SL1000 brushed aluminum faced tweeter. Compare the the 2 crossover components to see if they are the same.
-
The original crossovers in these speakers were made in 1982 and the new (used) set I got are from 1979 (but look much better). All the components have the same specs. From what I understand, I can use the 6500's or 6503's with these crossovers, correct?

Are the 6500's, 6501's and 6503's all interchangable?

Are your MW6500s defective? Is the original Crossover Defective?
The Passive Radiators are tuned for specific driver/cabinet combinations, so you shouldn't arbitrarily change things. Why did you buy a new set of crossovers?Home Theater/2 Channel:

If I recall correctly he wanted to go from Peerless to SL2000's, though I told him the mounting holes are different sizes, he'd need different crossovers, different midwoofers, and possibly different passives.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Hopefully I'm not thinking of someone else but he bought these for $40. All or most of the midwoofers were frozen, tweeters were shot, and there was tin foil in place of the fuses. I said it would cost more money to get them going again than they were worth or that he could get a different pair for. These were abused.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

LOL, my apologies guys! I didn't want to make a post just about my speakers, but rather separate posts about two different issues. I got the replacement crossovers because I discovered one in the speakers was melted and/or leaking, plus I didn't know if that was the cause of the tweeters not working....I found them for $7 so I figured no biggie.
I pretty much bought these on a whim, but didn't expect them to be such a money pit...as I have found out, the seller was not the most honest about them....so here I am. At this point I'm just going to wait until I find some original Peerless and eventually the drivers....or I might just resell the new crossovers and see if I can get rid of the cabinets and wait for a nicer functioning pair.
Today I just picked up a BEAUTIFUL one owner pair of RTA-8T's, so I'm paying more attention to them right now!! I must admit I was down about the 10's, but these 8T's have made up for it!
Thanks again for your input, gentlemen. On the losing end of a wishbone and I won't pretend not to mind... -
Congrats on the 8T's. Very underrated speaker IMO.

The 8ts are great speakers as well, and when upgraded will sound quite good.
Depending on which version you have, you may be able to upgrade them to TL status, and use the RDO-198-1 Tweeters.

I would have to agree it would be a Long term project as while I could have replaced the tweeters and passives in my 10a's many times over in the past year MW6500's are few and far between. I have considered the MW6503 as from what I understand it is the currently available replacement from Polk. I am however unsure of the impact it would have on the sound I currently enjoy.

Yeah, the cabinets are in good shape, no grills though. I'll hang on to them for now and see what happens. It's a shame, right when I got the 10's I saw some 6500's on eBay but didn't know I was going need them at the time!On the losing end of a wishbone and I won't pretend not to mind...

Which new replacement does POLK have for the 6500? Opinions? On the losing end of a wishbone and I won't pretend not to mind...

There isn't one, which is why I said eBay. The 6503 would probably be your best replacement choice.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Sure, I would ideally like to replace them with the originals. Do you think the 6503 is safe bet or should I just keep waiting for the originals? On the losing end of a wishbone and I won't pretend not to mind...

As I said, they do pop up regularly. Do a saved search on eBay, so whenever a MW6500 is listed, you'll be notified. The MW6503 was used on the later Monitor 10s. The MW6501 was also used on the early 10s, but those have very different T/S Parameters. The MW6510 is also an option, as it's very similar to the MW6503. The only potential problem I foresee, is the tuning of the Passive Radiator. The counterweight may have been adjusted for the different woofer models used over the years.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Great information, thanks. I never thought of doing a saved search! I think I'll be patient and wait for the originals as that was most of the draw to this particular pair of 10A's.On the losing end of a wishbone and I won't pretend not to mind...

Actually, I do have one more question. I've noticed sometimes I'll see a 6500 but it's not from a monitor...instead from an SDA. Does that make a difference? On the losing end of a wishbone and I won't pretend not to mind...
