Squeezebox Touch or Sonos

I have a chance to pick up a Touch for a decent price for my bedroom system. What is the support going to be for the Touch in the coming years?

Or should I just get another Sonos Connect for my bedroom system?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Something to think about Logitech no longer makes the Touch or any Squeezebox since 2012. -- Just saying.

If you already have Sonos, stick with it. Expandability is what makes it such a nice all around system.

And as @gimpod stated, Logitech hasn't supported the Squeezebox line for some time now.

Logitech still puts out the occasional minor update to its Media Server software every few months. They are not making the hardware now of course. Mine still work just fine, streaming from a computer with Windows 7 as the operating system.

What it will lack in the future is keeping up with the latest music streaming apps, but I never cared about that aspect of it anyway. Internet radio works fine still. If someone is mainly just interested in streaming their own stored music the system should be good indefinitely, and it does a great job at that function.

I'd just get another Sonos....why have 2 different operating systems. Especially since this will be for a bedroom.

    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21
    Sony 4k BRP
    SVS SB-2000
    Polk Sig. 20's
    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Kitchen

    Sonos zp90
    Grant Fidelity tube dac
    B&k 1420

I agree with that approach. No sense in starting another system if one linked system is in place already.

Also in as far as the squeeze box goes Ipeng HD support the SB and is current with updates. Also cheaper then sonus. I tried the sonus but didn't see the point in other operation system. Hmmm sound familiar doesn't.

I'll never part with my squeezebox touch. For the purpose of high resolution playback from a hard drive it is outstanding. The downside is that you need a server but as long as you run a machine for it squeezebox touch is really really good.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

The Squeeze Box also works well with my Logitech Remote. And I would imagine the sonos would as well.

  • Well guys, I have not bought the Touch. I use a Touch in my main system now and I am very pleased with the way it sounds. I was given a Sonos Connect and use that for my whole house system and it works and sounds great for that application. I am currently using a Apple Airport Express as a source for my bedroom system that I was thinking about buying the Touch for. So I have 3 formats. I think my best bet is to get another Sonos Connect because it would work best with my intent of the system(s). But the Sonos Connect is the most expensive. I am in no rush.

    Thanks of your thought,

Scott, the connect comes up on your local craigslist fairly often for under 3 bones, seen some for 200 on mine.

Sonos can only be controlled by the app. They dont have ir, ip, or rs-232 support.
The ip support that is our there is lame.
    But the app is awesome.
