Thinkingof upgrading, Got a line on SDA2 (one tweeter two mids, passive radiator). Should i go for it? I have a Marantz SR4021 receiver that does 100 wpc into 6 ohm.

You should get the SDA's, but a receiver will not do them justice.Political Correctness'.........defined

I would probably pass on them because of the condition and this statement in the ad:All drivers over time suffered from the famed magnet shift the Polk 6.5" woofers are known for. I had all drivers repaired professionally and when they did they used foam instead of rubber on surrounds. I wasnt a big deal to me and they sound the same.

Definitely pass on the SDA's. That repair is unacceptable and would have to degrade the SQ, in spite of what the seller says."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer

Those 11's are SWEEEETTTTTT
As long as the rest of them look as good as the fronts & work properly.. -
Looks like 11's are already claimed.
-
Ones like that dont last long. Sometimes ya gotta wait it out & its worth it for a clean pair of any vintage speakers...

Keep looking.

I agree, There's a guy locally that will fix Polk drivers but he uses surrounds, cones and voice coils from different manufactures and at a price higher then a new one would cost. I never heard one of these so called fixed drivers but I'll bet the sound really good.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain -
If the rest was really good (they are not), you could get them and then watch Ebay for a deal on the correct drivers. I would pass, well maybe $50POLK SDA 2.3 TLS BOUGHT NEW IN 1990, Gimpod/Sonic Caps/Mills RDO-198

How would RTA8TL compare with my M7? I really like the M7, would only go with M10 or other big polk for more bass

Rare indeed. As Skip states the crossover is tweaked for better performance resulting in a dedicated left and right speaker that are actual floorstanders. Due to the larger cabinet they also deep deeper than the 10's. It's a nice speaker and well worth $250.00.

I may look into the Monitor 11 if they are still around at the end of the month

Honestly, my beat up Monitor 7's sound great. Maybe the new tweeters might be good, but I do like the SL2000, reminds me of an EMIT
-
Maybe instead of new speakers you could upgrade your current ones. Are the stands you have them on decent and mass loaded? You could upgrade the crossovers, tweeters, dynamat the drivers, make sure the cabinet is sealed, add a bit of black hole to the inside of the cabinet (one strip behind the MW), perhaps add a sealed subwoofer to the mix, reveneer them if they look that beat up. That's just a few things to think about.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Really? They remind me of a Emu, not an EMIT

Are my mid 80's Monitor 7's 4 or 6 ohm?
-
I think I'll re-cap the crossovers. I'm going to replace the old electrolytic with new ones. Also going to replace my tattered grills.
MAYBE someday get some RDO tweeters and new MW6502'sPost edited by telemike on
