Rogue M-180's on the way.

Trat,
Rogue ships their amps with the tubes installed (this makes no sense to me). I'm the 3rd owner of these . . .
In Nov I re-tubed with new KT120s . . . HUGE Diff
They were old/orig tube issues, like bias not holding long & poor tube base-to-bottle connection. Try removing all your tube from the sockets to see if there's a solid connection between the 2
If you need a tube, I can send you one of my old ones??AC Regenerator PS Audio PerfectWave Power Plant 10

So, its been a couple of weeks. I have the Rogues in place and the Cary SLP05 pushing them.
My system has made a very good progression. When I got the Rogues connected and still had the P5 I could instantly tell that the difference in separation was so much better. The amps are natural sounding and have tamed down the highs that were sometimes present with the A21 on bad recordings.
Then I installed the Cary SLP05. It is a great preamp and might just be the last preamp I every buy. The control that it provides is not something that I have ever had the chance to spend much time listening to. The clarity, naturalness, separation and soundstage really pull me in and I find myself listening for hours at a time. The bass is very accurate but may have lost just a slight bit of slam.
I am still dialing everything in and have not had a change to try out the A21 on the bottom and the Rogue M-180's on the top. I am currently looking at changing out some of the IC's and the SC's (once again). After bringing in the new equipment and the reconfiguration of the rack some of my interconnects are not long enough.
So far I am very pleased with the upgrades and look forward to enjoying it for at least a couple of weeks.
Glad your digging the SLP O5, Knew you'd be rubbing your junk all over it. lol
Want your slam back ? Sell the Rogue's, sell the A21, find a McCormack DNA 500. Has a lot of tube characteristics but with enough balls for your whole neighborhood. No fuss with blowing fuses/tubes/biasing. Just my .02HT SYSTEM-

I'm not unhappy with the M180s...at all.
But what if?? . . . .
What's a fair price for a DNA 500
Ps did you see my post asking if Manley Classic 350s were good/solid monos for $2400 each? But then we're back to tubes, bias, etc . . .AC Regenerator PS Audio PerfectWave Power Plant 10

Trat- Congrats on some nice gear! I had the Rogue Stereo 90 at one point and really liked it. Although with the stock tubes, mine sounded too creamy and mushy for my taste. It was very responsive to tube rolling and with the right tubes it sounded excellent. Have fun!

Certainly in the ball park on price. Sale pending already ? Figures....they don't come up for sale too often and for good reason. You may be able to find the middle child, the DNA-250 easier. Still powerful and has the same basic sound signature.
Wonder if JHAYMAN still has his, he had both at one point. I talked him into jumping on the McCormacks and haven't seen him since. Probably still trying to get his sack unglued from his face. lol
Glenn, what don't you like about the Rogue's ? Curious is all, have you tube rolled ? Connected gear and cables ?HT SYSTEM-

No SQ issues what so ever. You keep mentioning the McCormacks, so the wheels started spinning!! But the Rogue metal case is thin and I'll be Dynamatting it. Also, if the M180s are rack mounted, you'll never see the beauty of the tubes. They are on the floor now and taking up precious real estate, lol
I don't think that there are output tubes that I can roll, but last xmas I replaced them all with matched Tung Sol KT120s from Rogue . . . which made a huge diff
I also replaced all the drivers with circa 1962 RCA 12AU7A grey plates (Thanks Faustin)
In the input driver section are some JJs that came with the unit and are the next on the list to be replaced. If anyone can recommend a replacement, I'm all ears!

Gotcha man, nice system btw you pieced together there too. The Rogues are nice amps, but tube amps do have their drawbacks for some.
Anyway, as long as your happy, rock on. Hopefully someone with more experience with the Rogues will chime in on some tube recommendations for ya.HT SYSTEM-

Glenn, You might try some RCA, 3 Mica, Black Plate, D Getter 12AX7 or the 5751, these tubes play very nicely in my Rogue Cronus.
Another exceptional tube is the Sylvania 5751, 3 Mica, Black Plate from the 1950's. The 5751's have about 30% less gain than the 12AX7's, so you might keep that in mind. Only downside is they are not cheap!

Late to the party here but interesting reading. I have a McCormack DNA-1 and Rogue M120 Magnum monos. Both are superb amps, the DNA-1 is a tubelike SS and the Rogue is a SS-like tube. So even though there are differences they are not as obvious. The DNA-1 beats the Rogue at the extremities of the frequency range but the Rogue is better at the mids. I like pairing the Rogues with my Benchmark Dac-pre and the DNA-1 with a Dodd variable gain tube buffer-pre.
