LOL did I do something wrong?

I found out that since I had a Ortofon 2m red cartridge all I had to do was get a 2 blue stylus and plug it into my red Cartridge....super so I just got one in and I'm digging some vinyl and wow some much more bass..not sure at 1st if its a good thing...
so I finish my 2nd LP and I just cleaned my 3rd LP ...I pick it up with a micro cloth like I always do so as to not get finger prints on it.. I set it on the platter and as I pull the cloth away it crabs my stylus and the tone arm goes flying in the air ,.... I look down and I ripped the $%%^## stylus right off .....

I didn't get to listen to a 3rd LP and its gone ....Welcome to the real world folks....where life can kick you in the balls anytime you get old and stupid like me... I thought what did I do wrong? LOL

all well I'm still a happy camper as it is just another brick in the wall! B)

Bummer at least you still got the stylus from the red right, just less bass but after the 2nd album what was your impressions? I got big hands and can slide my albums out using my middle finger and thumb then holding with both hands with out touching nothing but the sides while putting it on the platter. Sorry to hear about your short lived present to yourself.

  • Yeah sometimes you just have to laugh it off. I remember about ten years ago I was getting ready for deer season here in Ohio and thought I would go out and be sure the scope on the shotgun was still on. I got the Mossberg out of the garage and took a walk with my brother down threw the field and set up jugs to shoot at. I didn't bother to check or clean the barrel prior, just pulled it off the rack and went with it. I set the jug about 30 yards out and chambered the first shell, shouldered the gun and let er rip. Well I missed, then I seen why, the slug exited through the side of the barrel just above my hand. I wasn't even pissed that I just ruined a $200 barrel, just laughed because I didn't shoot my hand off or shoot my brother who was standing to my left the same side the slug exited. My brother asks why are you laughing... that sucks...nope it could have been so much worse. I have no idea why the barrel exploded must have a dead mouse or mud dauber nest in it...What did I do wrong..,oh yea..that.

That is about the luckiest thing I have heard.... I had a situation where I was following a friend home after he purchased an old 65 Pontiac 8-lug Grand Prix with no tail lights. it was at night and raining, when he slammed on the brakes. I swerved right to avoid him and got off in some wet grass.

My big old 70 GS Riviera spun so fast I still dont remember how many times it came around. What I do remember is passing between a bug old oak tree on one side and a telephone pole on the other BACKWARDS with about a foot to spare off either side. not a single scratch on the car when I came to a stop, some 150 feet in front of him.

He bought me a beer or three after that and a new pack of underwear.

That's lucky too. I have several stories similar to that one...another day...another glass of wine...It definitely feels like I have a guardian angel looking out for me...my luck only seems to come in the form of near misses though. Never lucked in any fame or monetary fortune.

That sucks Darryl. As usual you have a sense of humor about it. In 1991, my then 3 year old Son decided to play with Daddy's Turntable. Daddy was at work, and Mommy was cleaning in the other room. When I got home, the stylus on my Shure V15 Type5 was bent at a right angle. She never played again.

I feel ya bro. Not too long ago, i fried a pair of dali mentor 2 woofers. Hooked them up to a defective amp to troubleshoot. Why i didnt hook the amp up to a pair of def tech pro monitor 80s i had laying around? Cuz im stupid! $530.00 bucks for replacement drivers. No thank you!
  • My year old son was the first time I gave up on vinyl doing the same thing.
He did a good job except there was no vinyl on the platter. Got a new needle
and the same thing happened! :o
