Clapton is God

  • I think I'll name my next dog after Eric.
    Clapton is Dog.
  • Remember boys that was his pick hand. My whole theory on the GD is, because they were not a radio friendly band like the Doors, Rascals, Loving Spoonful, Kinks et al, you either liked them or did not. When they were good they were the best at what they did w/ a hundreds of covers and all. I called them the most unoriginal original band alive. When they were off they were f$%king horrible and worthy of walking out.The mystery of the no set list, the knoodling to get settings right and cues for the next song used to drive me nuts. This is after seeing the Stones rattle off 40 songs. Yes apples and oranges. I'm just saying they always seemed to have technical difficulties and unwanted feedback until the Wall of Sound was dialed in for a whole 2 years. If they were on, in good voice and all cylinders clicking they could take to places you've never been to before, including like my friend used to say even the slow stupid cowboy songs.

i liked them -- just something else to make George roll his eyes...
(but then again, I liked FZ too...)

EDIT: ... and, nota bene, I only used the past tense above because the principals are dead or non-practicing, in both cases
  • Like I always said it would be easier to name the bands or players that I haven't seen then the ones I did. Zappa would be one the Doors and just a few others. I listed this on another thread for another topic but if your interested here's the link to the Dozin Dead site under my same screen name. You might be impressed and some might not have even heard of some of the bands I saw and heard over my 62 y/o lifetime.....

  • I'm no sevant, just a dementia free zone here. Thanks for looking it did take some time and I'm sure there are others but those are the top ones and some were sneak -ins, some were by invitation by the uber manager Dee Anthony who was a great family friend and he represented Ten Years After, Spooky Tooth, Joe Cocker, Peter Framton among others w/ both being their tour managers and also having the booking agency Premire Talent that handled all the British bands on the east coast after they landed here.

Derek & The Dominos In Concert. Now there's a great album!

Don't know that one. Wonder if Jim Gordon is on drums (one of the absolute greats!). He was on the studio album and later had a bout of . . .ummm, insanity. Killed his mother with a hammer and knife cause the voices told him to.

Yep, he's on there! Before he killed his mother with a hammer of course. Clapton once said he was the best drummer he ever played with.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

If the stories are true, then how did Jimi, a mere mortal, give God self doubt?

Not even in the top ten. IMO

Top ten greatest in terms of feel, musicality, and just general awesomeness? He easily makes that list, name me ten people ahead of him. He's not top on that list for me personally, but I could make a strong case for it. In terms of only guitar Neal Morse is probably my favorite but as an overall musician and songwriter Clapton is near the top of my list.

    - SRV
    - Albert King
    - BB King
    - Joe Bonamassa
    - Jimi Hendrix
    - Gary Moore
    - Duane Allman
    - Mike Bloomfield
    - T-Bone Walker
    - Johnny Winter
    - ...

There is a lot of personal taste involved in these list. But for me, Clapton is very over rated.

Edit: Just realized that I'm responding to quite an old post...

I'll second that motion....very over rated and vanilla. Classic rock.....ehhh, I'll pass on most nowadays.
