Speaker Cloth Replacement

What is the secret to get a nice neat corner when replacing grill cloth? I'm reclothing my 2nd set of Polks and thought I would get the hang of it by now but I'm still having trouble with the corners. When I've taken the old cloth off, I've noted how it was done at the factory but for the life of me I can't replicate it. The front looks fine but the underside is bunched up- this causes the frame to stand off some from the face of the speaker. I am using staples to attach the new cloth, if that matters. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks, Don

I use the "Butterfly" method. Staple everything taught, but leave about an inch unstapled by the corners from both directions. Now create a 45 degree crease at the corner with the fabric. Pull the fabric taught from one direction at a time, and put one staple along the crease at a 45 degree angle, then do the opposite. Now spread out (Butterfly) the cloth, flatten and pull it taught toward the center of the grill. Staple across the "butterflied" section with three staples, and trim off the excess.

You're welcome. The cloth I use is very thin. Heavier cloth is more difficult to work with.

The cloth I have used is "Knit Ponte" from Joann Fabric- their item # 864595 ($5.59/yd on sale). It is thin, easy to work with and very musically transparent. DK mentioned it in one of his threads so I gave it a try. I'm no expert (only reclothed two pairs so far- SRS & 2B) so I'm open for ideas on other cloths cuz I know there will be more Polks in my future.
