Actually, only limited items are available for shipment out of Country. The items I linked are not available form what I can tell. Use this link to get to the International Shipping section: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=230659011
An yes, those American cherry subs look sweet with the Polks, They used to offers this as well as an Oak finish: http://www.avsforum.com/photopost/data/2156533/b/b7/b7824e2e_SAM_1738_zps524a6320.jpeg
...but that is an older color...Its not listed,...nor do I know if they will do a special order.
I was looking at a Denon 4520ci avr and even though it does to show when i search through the link you provided, it does when i search under electronics and hit 'AmazonGlobal Eligible' filter..... The product detail also contained the following "Shipping: This item is also available for shipping to select countries outside the U.S."
So i sent them an email to see if they would ship to NZ. I could save at least 1300nzd. In stores here the Denon 4520ci is going at 4300nzd. I was just looking at some receivers and the Denon is on the list, so is the Yamaha 3030, Pioneer Elites and the Marantz 7008.
I don't know why they stopped with the cherry subs! That would have looked so..damn good with the cherry A9's Guess the piano black will be alright, they will pull in some attention. -
Good news.... Amazon ships to New Zealand!!
Anyone wants to recommend an avr with pre outs? -
There are several out there....but all the ones I linked have preouts. Pioneer SC-1523-K, Onkyo TX-NR818, Onkyo TX-NR3010

I also loved the entire story. First off you made the move to include the wife to be from the get go so thimbs up for that.Secondly you really researched the gear you wanted and the sound you were looking for. A question, what is NZ dollar compared to U.S and are U.S. products in general and electronics in particular that much more than here in the states. Obviously your computer literate and I was wondering while E-Bay would be a nightmare shipping wise but do you also have C/L or something else to find used gear? @leftwinger67 first of all thank you, and my apologies for the long post. Theres not many choices when it comes to hifi audio in New Zealand. However there are some that stock premium components but they cost a kidney at the very least. I was lucky to find the polk rti's at a resonable price in nz dollars. Usually a pair of rti a9 would cost 3699+ in nzd.
And most hifi components imported in by the buyer would cost at least 25-40% less than what it would cost here in New Zealand.
As for used goods here's what it's like, cheapest denon 4520ci receiver retails for 4299nzd and for a used one the asking price is set to 4000nzd on near offer. So I might as well import one from amazon cause the calculated costs for the 4520ci receiver + shipping and import duties + tax = 3047nzd to my door step. That's almost 30% less than retail!
I did put in a lot of time researching on components, the technical shizwaaz, room setups...etc, however I still consider myself as a noob mainly cause there's soo much more than what i have read and researched on, and as you know sound is subjective and my first hand experience has been very limited.
On a side note, would like to apologise I have not been very active on this forum, just been very busy with work and have had to spend my free time going over wedding prep. -
I enjoyed your story! The whole of it and especially how your fiance handled everything. Never underestimate the ability of a brilliant and loving woman to be 3 steps ahead of her man!
My advice is to always be reasonably honest, respectful, empathetic, and most especially apologetic to your partner when it comes to your "addictions". It will pay off in the long run for sure. My wife of 20 years has learned that my addictions include her, so she needs to put up with these little bumps and distractions.
"I'm sorry sweetie, I had a weak moment and decided to just buy this AVR rather than regret a cheap piece of junk later!"
My wife has even said "Shut up and just buy that new receiver already, I'm tired of hearing about it!"
Being in NZ you've got a bit of a tough nut to crack, I suggest that you always buy quality gear that will last, but plan your rig with staggered upgrades in mind, so that the expense is spread out over time. Get an AVR that can drive the entire rig for now, but includes PRE-OUTS so you can add an AMP later. Because after that you're going to need an upgraded 4K panel, and then a new AVR with whatever cool tech is in store next, then new ATMOS Z-axis surrounds, etc.
All the best!

Hey guys,
First of all sorry for not being active on the forums, was away on a euro trip kindly paid for by our parents as a wedding gift. It was fun while it lasted. We were away for 2 months.I enjoyed your story! The whole of it and especially how your fiance handled everything. Never underestimate the ability of a brilliant and loving woman to be 3 steps ahead of her man!

Hey man, the last time I called he was not in the office, will try again this week.Ya know, I'm often curious as to why men have to justify every nickel spent with their wives yet....they never once ask us about spending 100 on shoes or 300 on a dress. Oh man that's awesome! Someone to talk setup with, what's your opinion on running them as rears? And what do you run them off?I will be stabbed or shot.

I dodged both luckily haha..Great story! Look for a good used Parasound Halo A51 or a Sunfire Signature Grande. I've had both and they both have similar sound signatures and sound great for music and have plenty of power.
Thanks, I will be looking in for those. For starters I will be looking at cheaper options just to get me going for at least 3-4 months. -
Also since I got back from the trip I have been looking at avr's, and the one's on the radar have been Denon 4520CI, Yamaha 3030/3040, and the Pioneer LX78. All priced very closely, Yamaha's being the cheapest. All have the features am looking for, having a hard time deciding on one.
Also the audyssey, ypao and mcacc setups. Should I be worried bout what I choose when it comes to the 3? Audyssey has a lot of praise and it seems to have dual sub eq (individual eq for each sub from what I gather). If I was to go with the other 2 i would have abit more control over the setup from what I understand but would i need to calibrate each sub manually? Is there an external sub eq system I could purchase? -

Generally speaking A/V preamps are expensive. Good 5-7 channel amps are expensive. So if you want to go that route...save all you can.
However, if you go with an AVR that has the feature you are after it will power the speakers just fine untill you can add an amp. Then you could add a lower cost 5 or 7 channel or even a 2 ch or 3 ch amp to power the fronts and let the AVR continue to drive the rear. IMO, this is the best bang for the buck. Some 5 channel amps can get pretty pricey. Finding an AVR for $1K USD and under then an amp for $1K USD and under would be a great value.
Models from Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo, Yamaha, etc might offer the best features for the money. Here are some nice units with tons of feature at not so crazy prices. I think Amazon might ship to you?

I looked through all amps you suggested and am just curious about the outlaw mono amps, i have never heard of them and i would need 3 or 5 of them for sure but how does it compare to the rest you suggested?
-
Outlaw had some really respectable HT pre's, such as the 975. They are an internet direct company and, basically, are an alternative to Emotiva. I've heard good things about the Outlaw monoblocks, but I don't know how much credibility I give to the review's I've read/heard. I'm not saying they are good or bad, but I do notice that the majority of customers fully enjoy their products.
With that said, Parasound would be top of my list. Legendary company with a long-standing tradition of sound quality and build quality. As far as I'm concerned, they are the go-to company for anyone looking for top performing mid-fi products.
I have just been to ListeningPost here, they stock few power amps and i got suggested a Sunfire amp for my rti system. $4k -> $3.1k USD
http://www.sunfire.com/productdetail.asp?id=4
Am also looking at the parasound A51 but that's priced at $10k -> $7.8k USD

This link will take you directly to the amp listings -
I have just narrowed the avr selection down to Pioneer SCLX 88 and the Denon 4520CI. I will be going for either one of these two cause i would not be able to purchase amps till after my wedding which would be in Feb, so lets say i get the amps in March.. I need to be able to get atleast some sound out of the rti's till than cause i cant wait for that long, not with the speakers and subs arriving anyday now. And obviously i wont be dialing it to max with an avr, just moderate volumes avoiding any clipping.
So which would you guys recommend to go with the a9's and if someone could chime in on the mcacc vs audyssey, i have read alot of forums on these correction systems and yet i cant decide on which i should get.
-
Hey man thanks for taking the time out and coming up with few selections. I think i will just have to buy new. Just dont want to end up with a dud.
-
So after 2 months waiting time...this is what i get in the email..
'We are sorry but due to high demand for the pb13ultra in the states the manufacturer has run out of stock and your subs will have to be made and shipped. Wait time would be 2-3 months.'

Hey everyone, apologies for being away for this long, been through an hectic 4 months with work, ceremonies and my father having a quad bypass.
Haven't really had the time to actually unbox any of my gear, plus got a new place so just began rewiring things for the set up.
Few changes for the setup, the major one being the SVS dealer in NZ screwed me over for the Ultra's. After another month of waiting they came back saying they could not bring them in any longer cause the cost went up. They were asking for 1.4k USD more so they could have it imported, taking the cost up to 7.3k NZD. After arguments over the phone I went for the refund and got two free SVS sub cables.
I purchased the Denon AVR 4520 CI for $1700 USD
And got my buddies Emotiva XPA-5 for testing when the wiring is done. His just bought a Rotel 1582 5 channel amp.
http://paulmoney.co.nz/product/rotel-rmb-1585-power-amplifier/
So finally back at it and feeling rather exhausted, i have to look at alternatives for the subs. They recommended i get the Velodyne SPL1200 Ultra.... i don't think it comes even remotely close to the performance of the SVS i was getting and for my room size they were not going to cut it. ( 25 feet by 16 feet. And the height of 8.1 feet. )
I have looked at other options from the countless reviews i have read and if i have to import than the following are options am considering:
Rythmic FV15HP - Will be $140 USD less than what i was originally paying for the SVS
HSU VTF 3 - $300 USD less than the originally quoted SVS
SVS PB13 Ultra - $1400 more than it was previously quoted
Any input on the selected above will be much appreciated.
Also with my setup consisting of 4x RTi A9's and a CSi A6, should i wish to venture onto 7.2 what should i add to the setup from the RTi line?
-

I do like the look of the Rythmic FV15hp... How close are these three subs when it comes to performance?

In performance the Rythmic runs neck and neck with the SVS. The HSU all though a good value just falls short especially for musicality.2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

Thank you for another quick response, the more I look and read about the Fv15hp the more am liking that option. At some point in the near future I will be adding two more subs to the HT room, so in total I would have 4x fv15hp if I went with them.... And taking into account the costs after customs and tax they do make a good choice.
-
