I have not read all 5 pages of this posting but if they can't even redirect you to the new Polk Audio forum after opening the old, that's a bad sign.
I have little interest anymore opening the new Polk Audio.
Fix it! -

Does anybody care at Polk that any link from our old forum no longer works? What about all the info that was in sticky's that had to do with older driver support or what is available as of now? It is a shame that that vast information is no longer available to anyone that Google's to find info you get this

So as someone pointed out all DK's work is no longer available unless I'm missing something -

yep that makes no sense to leave the very page you're on just opening a new tab would be very sensible...

They migrated most everything over to this forum address. You have to search for it within the new forum's search engine, what is missing is working links within any former forum post to older posts. I am with others that the main purpose for this forum isn't for social interaction, it is for sharing information and finding that information easily should be a priority. I see the forum change as a move from an info site to a social site as a disservice. This site is awesome, just like the projector reviews new web site. I love the way you have to sift through all these awesome signature pictures to read what some one has wrote in a one line reply. Man I love the new bold red text it really gets my attention and makes me think 'polk is red and the text is red' .
All of these little funny profile face things and likes with points make me forget that I this site is anything to do with audio at all and give it more of that social vibe.
If this is the new site then it seems like its totally ready for the next generation of audiophiles. -

Change can be good, but it all depends on how it happens. It appears there are a few things that were either neglected or just not thought out properly in this migration to a new forum.
I commented before on just the layout issues. I am also finding that links to prior posts within a thread do not work. Additionally, the loss of images in threads pre-upgrade are a huge loss as well (already mentioned). I read a lot of stuff that DK posts as well as stuff from other excellent contributors. Those threads, including images, were a valuable help in working on my SDAs. Companies usually value their information, but it appears that in this case, whoever managed this cutover plan missed a lot of things that I would say were of great value to Polk and it's customers.
There is a certain "halo" effect with products. I never was in the market for Polk speakers in the last 15 years or so, but because of all the wealth of information I found on SDAs, I actually started looking at the newer lines of speakers, like the LSiM. That never would have happened had it not been for this forum, the valuable information that was here and all the contributors who made this site what it was. I would say that losing any of that information, will have some effect on Polk's bottom line. It might not be quantifiable, but I suggest that it is there.
Hopefully they can fix some of those issues. I don't know if they can fix the image or link issues in prior threads though as it looks like everything was cutover and that usually only happens once.Speakers

Looks like we are both concerned about a lot of the same things. I truly believe if they don't recover the wealth of information that was on the other site it will never be regained. Several great people put a lot of time and effort in to help the members here. It is sad that it is missing, hopefully they will find a way to restore it!!

Yes, PFB was kind of damning with not-so-faint praise. That rascal ! : ' )
It has to be a pretty involved job moving a site from VBulletin to the present software platform. That it functions at all is more than what most of us could accomplish by ourselves, although we do have some Polkie IT wizards who could perform some real magic.
It's kind of like at my work. We went from a Wonderware-based BAS system in which we could create works of art to "something else" that requires/needs outside contractor support. Technically the new system is more advanced, but the user interface is "klunky" (technical term that means "WTF, why can't we <fill in the blank> anymore ?").
Polk had to envision what the needs would be down the road. In doing so, they had to look at the newer generation of users who have grown up with Iphones, Twitter, and Facebook. Had to. So they chose consultants to assist in making the move.
The consultants (and I'm not knocking them) got the technical part down, but not necessarily the "artistic" part down, the GUI. And that's what new users see first.
And for not-so-new users who are looking for older info, there are problems. It's been mentioned that DK's treasure trove of info has disappeared and that IS a problem.
Long story short (although I'm still getting paid by the word, right ?), we were all hoping for a FLAC system and it looks like we're stuck at MPEG-2.
(have to give the consultants some credit so I didn't say MPEG-1).
Sal Palooza
