Was looking around for something to repair a 1/4" split in the surround of an MW in the CRS+ I just acquired. Found in a google search that some had success using bicycle inner tube patch glue sans patches.

Started reading up on chemical vulcanization, which this stuff claims to do, and found many bike riders swear by this product: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CO6T7K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So I bought some. I put one coat on each inside edge and three each on the inside and outside of the surround brushing it about 1/2" past the tear in both directions. Let it dry for 30 minutes and it would not come apart when pulling. Best of all, the flexibility of the rubber feels unaffected and it seems to soak into the rubber so that it doesn't make a thicker part where the repair is.

Only $5 with free shipping.

For a split that small, you could have used a toothpick, and some cyanoacrylate (super glue)

I've used the Loctite super glue gel before, and it worked pretty well, but this stuff seems to soak into the rubber instead of sitting on top. Like I said above, it didn't change the pliability, whereas super glue felt brittle.

I had read about that stuff before as well but just had not gotten around to ordering it. I like the fact that its a vulcanizing compound and it stays pliable.

Just be very careful whatever you use, the Polk rubber surrounds are paper thin compared to most others I've serviced.

Update: I have 200 plus hours on my modded CRS+, including the MW repaired per above. Just had a look at the repair and it's holding without issue while remaining as pliable as the rest of the surround. Good product!

Thanks for following up on this. I have the same kit sitting waiting for me to use on a torn MB Quart 6.5" car speaker I have. Will go ahead and do it with peace of mind!

Thanks for the info, will come in handy to fix the surround I punctured with a screwdriver while installing the speakers on my boat.
