Tommy at Middleweight was no joke! The left hook and the right cross were devastating.

How about the Gatti vs Ward fights...especially fight 1.
    Castillo vs. Corrales....Final round?

    Gatti vs...ANYBODY!
    Danny "Little Red" Lopez

Erik Morales vs Marco Antonio Barrera....first fight.

Those oughta keep you going for awhile.

Boxing is pretty much dead for now. MMA has swooped in and has courted the blood thirsty crowd. Boxing needs another bad boy, like aTyson unforgettable nately, and a lot of marketing.

What MMA lacks is the comeback. Usually when one MMA fighter gets a clear advantage, its a done deal.

    Not so, boxing.

MMA lacks that type of drama.

Those were a couple of great fights you posted. I agree, although I do enjoy some MMA, it doesn't replace boxing.

Oh have to disagree, Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen, almost any Frankie Edgar fight.
I still catch a fight on Showtime now and then

I'll have to check out those fighters, westmassguy. I admit, I'm not versed in MMA. Rhonda Rousey vs Liz Carmush. (sp?) I watched that fight. Thought Rousey was gonna get her head torn off, but she just wouldn't give in. Then again, she is a breed apart.

MMA seems to be more about blood and guts. Boxing is still the sweet science.

The MMA stuff is good and I loved the early years of UFC, but there's just something about a good boxing match that MMA has never been able to capture for me

Some of the best MMA fighters migrated from Boxing and Kick Boxing. Most American fighters also have roots in wrestling.
Some of the best fights I've seen lately were 90% standup, TJ Dillashaw vs. Renan Barao for example. Dilliashaw's boxing was outstanding. As I said, I still enjoy a good boxing match, but over the years, there's been so much corruption, and bad press outside the ring. We don't have larger than life characters either, like Ali, Foreman, Tyson, Frazier etc.. Both sports have their place.
Rhonda Rousey is definitely in a class by herself. I still haven't quite accepted Women's MMA just yet, but I'm getting there.

I grew up on weekly fights....Friday Night at the Olympic, Wide World of Sports, Sports Spectacular, etc. Some of the greatest fights didn't even take place in Vegas. Bobby Chacon vs Bazooka Limon - Sacramento, CA. Danny Lopez vs Salvador Sanchez - Phoenix AZ. I think the first Ali vs Norton fight was in San Diego.

The fights I grew up on were 15 round fights. 12 round fights were for lower tier belts like the North American Boxing Federation.

A scheduled 12 round fight and previous 15 rd fights require more strategy. Things can unfold slowly...Or Something might heppen surprisingly quickly. Gatti vs Ward and Barrera vs. Morales I are examples of a grueling, yet thrilling 12 round fights. A short shocking fight would be something such as Terry Norris vs John The Beast Mugabi, where Mugabi was favored.

Whether short or long, boxing has the ability to thrill. I cannot imagine a 12 round MMA fight.

    They are completely different sports.

MMA by its very nature is more geared towards instant gratification in my opinion.

Can't argue with that, but a 5 round MMA title match is about as grueling as it gets.

Boxing also has the ability to give instant gratification. You just can't expect it every time you watch a match.

Manny Pacqiao at the height of his powers. 140 lbs. Welter is not really his weight. Would have loved to see this version of Pacquiao against a prime Roberto Duran.

Any time 2 explosive punchers collide you know fireworks is guaranteed.
You also know the fight might not last the distance but just not sure who will be counted out.

And there is always the small chance one or both fighters will leave a piece of them in the ring and will never be the same again.
