    I agree.
Side note- have you been to a theatre with the Atmos setup?
I haven't all 3 of mine are Dolby digital and THX. Also,
2 of them just dropped THX certification due to the $76,000 annual fee to just be certified.
    Have to drive about 80-90
Miles to Las Vegas to experience it lol

Maybe one of these trips I will go. But would much rather listen to my own

I figured as much Jesse. I Haven't been to a Theater in at least 10 years. Even before my current system, I've had a big screen and some type of surround system since the late 80s, so I'd rather watch a movie in my own home.

At least with this gimmick you're getting speakers out of the deal. The wire industry just takes your hard-earned money and gives you strips of wire in return. Gee, thanks. I think I'll go with the ATMOS.

I was skeptic about this. But when I received my older 4tc last week.
Was very surprised! Heck, I did a swap out of what I just had in the garage
between basic GE 14awg, Sewell silverback cable, skoche(whatever the name is)
Car speaker cable, and some monster cable. The outcomes were very noticeable.

    Cheers!

Ya know, I don't remember L&C being such a Debbie Downer until recently. I guess someone pissed in his Cornflakes one day and he never got over it. Whatever it was, I had to put him on my BOZO list and suggest ya'll do the same as he's got nothing worthwhile to contribute.

I'm holding out for the smell-o-vision version.
I would also like speakers that shoot popcorn and spit balls!

I think I'm glad I have non-discerning ears that will only get worse with age. It saves me a bundle.

I've seen a few movies in the theater with Dolby Atmos and wasn't impressed. Admittedly, I didn't do a direct comparison by paying another $12 to watch the movie in a "Standard" theater but overall I was disappointed. I can even admit to accidentally watching a movie in an incorrect format without knowing it (e.g., watching a 7.1 movie in 5.1).

I realize it has been a month but the reason you had your surrounds six feet up is that because you did not have top speakers. With Atmos, they recommend lowering the surrounds to slightly above ear levels so there will be a distinction between sounds that are supposed to be behind / beside the listener vs those are above him.
I understand the concept, but my bipole surrounds and rears are six feet above the floor. When a helicopter flies over, it flies over. Maybe I'm missing something.

You assume incorrectly. I have Bi-Pole surrounds and rears. My system was laid out before I ever heard of Atmos. The surrounds and rears are wall mounted. Due to the configuration of my room, after reviewing Dolby, DTS, Video Essentials and several other sources for placement, and the fact that I can localize their sound very easily if placed slightly above ear level, the 6' to the centerline of the woofer mounting height was chosen.
It had nothing to do with Atmos.

What I meant is that placing surrounds above ear levels is usually done as a compromise.. When top speakers are present, surrounds can be placed lower and there can be distinction between sounds coming from above and sounds coming from behind. How much improvement / value is up to you to decide.
I don't feel the immediate need to upgrade so my plan is to wait until the second generation receivers (with HDCP 2.2) are released so that I can make the jump to atmos and 4k at the same time.

I have a 70 yo house with plaster and lath ceiling. Doubtful I will ever break into that to add ceiling speakers, and Wire-Mold would not be too pretty either. If you have a relatively new House with sheetrock, it would be doable.

I would also think twice before I installing ceiling speakers if I had a plaster and lath ceiling. Our house has sheetrock and the room is next to a crawlspace so it is fairly easy to run the wires to the ceiling.
