That's 6. 4 to go. This group buy is filling up faster than the one I did two years ago, for sure.

OK, so I got a response from Melanie from AL today with updated prices:

    Type: AV-047548 Iss 1
    10 pcs: $292.88 each

F1nut - point well taken. Having been a member of the Alfa Romeo forum for ~10years, new members are suspect until proven otherwise, especially in matter of financials. No harm, no foul...just the nature of the collective beast.

nspindel... thanks for stepping in to this space, taking the baton to ensure we get to the goal...10 orders.

    David, thanks for the endorsement!

    Oh, and ToolFan66,

    Thanks for your offer:
"If you guys get enough interest, and get them ordered I will build the aluminum cases for them if you all would like to go that route.
I will even make them for the speakons or binding posts.."

I joined the Polk Community late (especially considering I've been an owner/enthusiast/private spokesperson since 1985) so I've missed out on some of your hardware fabrication offerings to members. Always great when folks step up with replacement/upgrade parts to help continue/improve the breed.

    Official count:

There are still a couple of 'weak commits' but here is the list:

    Myself - Mr_Hz
    Moose68Bash
    Motorstereo
    crispybrown - maybe?
    vmaxer
brgman - might be worth jumping in?
    woofiepaws
    agfrost
Lasareath - PM me before order- may commit
    Inthefade - maybe
    Stogie -

That's 11 that have expressed interest, but only 7 with a 'solid' commitment. The 4 that are 'sitting on the fence' now that we have a 'quorum' comprising your 'possible interest,' are you ready to commit to make this a reality? Please make your intentions known so we can move forward with an order.

    Thanks!

So Lasareath... does that mean you are 'in or out' for this 1000ka order. Please clarify.

    Quote:

"Before you submit the order please PM me because I may get one as well.

So I have no problem being #11

    Thanks! "

Need to know your intentions, specifically. Yes, or no? I don't need to know your inventory (don't mean to be crass, just want specific info.)

Those sitting on the fence, deciding yes/no. PLEASE be specific in your response so we know whether you are IN or OUT for this group buy. Obviously this appears to be moving quite swiftly towards purchase. Seven committed members already... so your intentions now become very important as we move towards the minimum order of 10. In your response, please do not leave any ambiguity...either you're 'IN' or you're 'OUT' for this round... please clarify.

Any other respondents, please also be specific with your intentions. When we submit an order to the manufacturer we need 10 'solid' orders, no one that will opt out at the last moment.

Thanks for your consideration of this purchase as we move towards the minimum # required to place this order.

Thanks vmaxer... I show you as one of the solid ''commits.' Any member that doesn't have a comment following thier name is considered one of the 7 members who has committed to this group buy.

If that is an incorrect assumption, please let your intentions be known NOW.

I'll state that Melanie /Avel Lindberg stated that 50% is due at order... but she did not clarify 'when' the order would be ready for shipment. Obviously the remaining 50% would need to be collected/sent before any of us could receive these 1000KA transformers.

Does that help those that have expressed interest, but still undecided?

The 7 that have committed to purchase, and those that follow. Please forward your shipping information to nspindel. Melanie/Avel Lindberg has indicated that they can ship directly to recipeints, even if the purchase is done by one source (nspindel).

This will alleviate the need for nspindel to forward individual purchases to members. The factory is willing to send direct as long as they have the necessary information and the order is paid for completely.

Once we have received responses from the 4 interested/but not yet committed members... I think we should still have a waiting period (length ???) to see if anyone else wants to join the effort.

It seems that these 1KVA isolation transformer group purchases are once in a blue moon, so we want to capture all members that are truly interested. That said, if you are vascillating on this purchase, realize that these opportunities are few and far between. There has been 1 or 2 failed attempts since the last group buy in 2012 due to failure to reach the minimum required participants. Given the committed members for this one...when will there be sufficient interest for the next purchase? Better to get on board now if you have any interest in this modification.

Not trying to force anyone's hand, just trying to be realistic. 7 committed buyers... 3-4 possibly on their way. When will there be sufficient member interest to make another effort to purchase again?

Look forward to your commitment post on this thread. Thanks!

    Lasareath,

I don't mean to be disparaging... just trying to clarify intent. I realize you are a senior member with 11K+ posts, and I am but a plebe in this arena. I'm sure you can understand that as one tries to tally interest in a group purchase, that every possible 'interest' post comes under scrutiny. Just trying to seek clarification, regardless of member status. In my narrow focused intent, I didn't regard that your post was to a member specifically and not to the general audience as a whole. My apologies.

Please understand that my intended interests are pure, regardless of status.

    Regards,

    Ron/Mr_Hz

As indicated by Mr_Hz, nspindel will be handing the ordering and therefore, the money.

Hey there. Sorry, when I volunteered to do this I didn't realize interest would build up so quickly. When I did my group buy two years ago for my transformer, it took at least a month to get ten people! Great to see that there are so many people interested in joining Club Dread. It's expensive for a transformer, but when you get it you'll understand why.

At this point if the "maybe" people are in, we've got more than enough to place the order. My count is 12 including the maybe folks. Cripsybrown is not a maybe, he is in. I also received a PM from jonicont that he wants one.

Since this came together so quickly, I suggest we not go ahead with the order for a while longer, we should set a deadline for committing. It's in everyone's interest to wait, I do recall that the cost per unit drops rather nicely with a larger order. I propose a deadline of July 20, and I will place the order on Monday, July 21.

One thing to note - the cost AL quotes includes flat rate priority shipping. They assume they are shipping within the 48 continental states. If you live outside the 48 states, you'll need to let me know that because your shipping cost will be higher and I'll need to get a quote on that from Melanie.

AL bills 50% at the time of the order and 50% at the time of shipment. They quoted me a delivery time of around 10 weeks, and ended up shipping them much sooner than that. I believe we placed the order in September, expected them at Christmas, and got them at Thanksgiving.

However, even though AL collects 50% up front with 50% due at shipment.... I don't. I'll expect to get 100% of the cost via paypal before the order in order for you to be in. Melanie will charge my card 50% when I place the order, and she'll just charge my card the other 50% when the shipment goes out. I don't want to have to go chasing people for money a second time, so I guess that's where the trusting a long-term member part comes in. You're all going to have to fork over some dough to me and trust that I'm not heading off to the Caribbean with it.

So I'd appreciate if the "maybe" folks would firm up their status before order date, and I will be sending around a pm in about a week asking for payment.

Meanwhile, you're all investing wisely. I've seen a lot of these transformers bought in the past few years, and I haven't heard anyone say anything other than how much it's improved their sda performance, even with common ground amps.

And don't forget to budget for a case from Larry. You can't beat having a custom enclosure just for this transformer, with holes pre-drilled for either binding posts or speakons. And Larry's craftsmanship is always spot on. The stands he made for me are works of art!

My pleasure. Melanie makes things really easy, I just need to pass the addresses on to her and give her my credit card. So as long as everyone sends payment without me needing to chase, it's really not much more than just sending out a pm telling everyone where to send payment.

I just sent Melanie an email asking her for unit prices if we can pull together a higher quantity by the 20th. I'll post when I hear a reply.

Any more people interested in signing on to this group buy?
