Surround sound troubleshooting?

I just bought a 40" dynex TV and Samsung HT-C550 5.1 system.
So I have my cable box and PS3 hooked up to my TV with HDMI cables and then my TV hooked up into the Samsung dvd player/reciever via an optical audio cable.
I set everything up but only the two front speakers work on anything, TV, games, blue-ray, the rear and center speakers are doing nothing.
What's going on?!?
Thanks.

Sounds to me that you have a configuration issue either with the tv out or at the reciever...all components have to sync to work correctly ....check your settings on all components....and wiring too while you are at it...sounds simple..I'll bet you will knock yourself in the head and say 'I shoulda had a V8' !

According to the manual, you only have one digital optical input, and one analog/2 channel input on the Samsung. That means only one device can be connected at a time via the digital/optical connection. Your TV has 2 HDMI and 1 Component video input. You can connect all three devices to the TV, but you'll have to share the single digital optical connection on the Samsung. The make manual switch boxes for that.Home Theater/2 Channel:

On your TV there should be a setting for the digital audio out, it might be set to pcm or lpcm, you will want to change that. It should be set to bitstream/pass through or something of the likes. With it set to pcm/lpcm you will only get stereo.

I believe the TV has coaxial digital output, not opticalHome Theater/2 Channel:
