I moved my system around, trying to neaten things up , and I was plugging everything into the monster power management unit i just got.

Well long story short,i got the output and input wires from my phono pre to the preamp wrong in my haste,I just plugged them in from above instead of turning everything around to read what was what on the back to make sure.

The right sda started a loud popping, and some smoke came out from behind the 6510s before i could hit the power switch on the carver amp and my pre.

Now the 6510s on the right are scraping bad, I checked the crossover for burnt spots, it looks clean, I then turned everything back on after locating my mistake, everything played fine except for the scraping on the right side speak but this was the damage.

Not long ago, i would have stomped around and acted like it was the end of the world, but not anymore.

Dissapointed, of course, but i will be on the phone tomorrow morning with polk CS to order some replacements.

That sucks. Polk will substitute 6503s, don't think they make the 6510 replacements.
I've got a couple spares I'll send to you, just PM your address.

I dont know how to tell you all how much your kindness and decency means.

Im sorta fighting back a volcano right now, and it has just a little to do with what i just did to my sdas.

Good to know, they must have been out of stock last year, because I was offered a 6503 instead.

I have learned the tough way in the last few months we are not in control of our lives, we just have to pay attention and the way will be shown.

This is on a miniscule level compared to what is really important, but the formula still fits.

Although i could have done without the dumbass way it has happened, This is working out like many more important things in my life in the last 3 months.

As soon as i heard these, i knew they would always be with me and i would do everything i could to improve and keep them as perfect as i could afford.

I knew i would eventually get trey,(VR3) to do the crossovers,(Wish i could afford to let him do the full monty, but selah), and replace the tweets even though these old ones do well in this room.

I totally messed up the speaks i have fallen in love with by being lazy, and assuming i knew so I did not have to look for sure.

It has sped up the process, and eventually will cost me a little more money.

One day i will find a way here on CP to relate the life lessons and **** whippings god has given me lately, and this is just a metaphor for those examples.

I have not yet because it is so soon and the worry about oversharing, although i knew the quality of character of the folks here.

BTW, I tried to contact VR3 on his website, but at least on my computer, the contact us link would allow me to click, but nothing would happen.

I just want to start the process of finding out the price and procedure of getting my xovers done by him.

trey, if you see this, let me know the best way to contact you, or if anyone else, let me know.

Again, no urgency, i have other speaks for now, but seeing as how i knew i would do this eventually, this will just speed it up a bit.

That is the page and link I tried

Must be a prob on my computer.

If anyone can let him know to contact me,or pm me with another way to contact him.

Again, there is no hurry as i have had to replace the 1cs for now, but on his schedule, I would love if he was the one who upgraded my sdas

Sorry to hear the bad news. I think at some point most people break that golden rule of do not do work on powered gear. Then rule #2 label everything (I use white Scotch #33and a Sharpie) and place accordingly. Then when trying to do the right thing by neatening up your wires you failed to look. Now I'm just as guilty because I try and keep things neat and are a bit to tight so for me I do have to do some plugging in by feel. Not a good thing at all. Thankfully on my pre the input wires are no where near all the other inputs and on the Adcom you just can't mess that up except maybe switching sides. Do you have any other sets to play while these are down?

Does the same thing when i hit it there, the circular reload arrow at the top of the screen flickers, but it doesnt do anything.

Theres no hurry, In fact, right now, im gonna order two 6510s and see if the tweets are to be had here from someone cheap.

After installing those, maybe the xovers arent cooked, and i have done what I know needs to be done.

They are 1cs, only the right was affected, all four of the 6510s are affected to a degree, I held an album over them to listen to the tweets, and they were sounding pretty sad.

Hmm... so using input from phono to preamp input instead of output to input makes that mess?

No. The RCA's from TT go into phono input on the pre-amp.
There is no separate phono preamp by itself.

Can anyone tell me if i should be concerned about the diff. in replacing them, or are they interchangeable.

Sure enough, I took one of the bottom ones out its a 6511, are they interchangeable?

There would be 2 of each in this one speak that i ruined, hopefully, when im able to crank up the volume, the other speak will still perform properly.

Just got off the phone with polk cust. srvice, and they are not interchangeable.

I just dont know if this is going to be workable, that would be 200 bucks just to replace the mids on one speak, the tweets are f*&%ed, and i wont be sure sure about the other speak until i can crank them up, it sounds okay and the mids dont rub badly.

I think i probably did screw up bad.

ok I just got off the phone with alex at polk, and the 6511s are going to ship today, and when the 6510s arrive, they will be turned around, I will have to pay for ship, but what the hell.

BTW, thanks to alex at polk.

The two inside mids are 6511s, polkieman i cant thank you enough for alerting me.

Also checked the tweets i blew, they are both sl2000s, im hoping someone will sell me a couple.

But only after replacing the mids and making sure the other speak is fine, if not I might go ahead and splurge on the newer tweets, after consulting with westmass guy on which xover upgrade im getting, I would not change the tweets for any harshness, as there is none in my room.

i really think thats due to the equipment behind these, as our short lived relationship with some 2bs a couple years ago was because of the painful tweets, using inferior electronics..
