Need to get a power amplifier for LSiM705. Current options are Parasound 2250 v2 or Emotiva XPA 2 Gen2. Any recommendations between these two? Thank you in advance.

I vote Emo. Newer. Had the Gen 1 and it was a great amp. Have owned Parasound too and it's also great stuff.

Emo is more on the bright side but NOT harsh like a lot of guys claim.

To who's ears? Sound is subjective, and to many here the XPA series is akin to nails on a chalkboard, depending on the speakers used... I have heard an XPA-1 on a set of Maggie 3.7's recently and the ribbons even sounded bright to my ears.

XPA-200, XPA-500, XPA-5 all sounded harsh to me with Monitor Series II (60s, 70s, CS1 and 30s) and LSis.

The XPR-5 I have now on the other hand is a WHOLE other animal. For the price I paid, I would be hard pressed to beat it. But there are better options out there than the XPAs. Again, IMHO.

So the general consensus is Parasound 2250? I also have the option of the NAD C275 but thats a couple of hundred more than the Parasound and is rated at only 150x2 into 8 ohm.

Emotiva all day and three times on Sunday. Get yourself a warranty & buy new, you deserve it.

If a new amp still works after the first day the likelyhood that it will need repair under warranty is damn close to nil, so buying a new amp for the warranty is not a reason to do so. Buying a good condition used amp and getting a much better one than you could afford new is a reason to do so.

Sure but where we're disagreeing is whether the Parasound is better. Different, sure. Better, I disagree but respect your opinion.

You may be happy with either the Parasound or Emotiva in my opinion. Emotiva apparently fixed a concern I had with their first generation XPA amps with their Gen 2 versions, which was to reduce the noise floor by reducing the gain. I haven't heard a Gen 2 amp from them to see if their changes really worked. If you're using an amp primarily for home theater I'd go with whatever is cheaper.

Ha! I've been on this board long enough and have seen a few start out this simply, as have seen similar situations about other subjects on other boards. The feels always run strong and deep in both camps.

I say listen to all the experiences and do what works for your needs, ears and budget.

Thanks guys. Dont really want to start a fight. Dont have the chance to listen to the amplifiers before purchase therefore the queston.

Between Parasound 2250 v2 (275x2) and NAD C275 BEE (150x2) does anyone have first-hand knowledge which would be better? The drawback I see is the low watt rating of the NAD.

Having had a Parasound, I would go with that, but I also wouldn't hesitate with the Emotiva either since it is brand new with a warrenty if you feel more comfortable with having that. But this gear is built to last for years so you can't go wrong either way.

+1. I own the 1st gen. Parasound 2250 and the Wyred 4 Sound bigger brother of the ST500 in the multi-channel version. I don't think you can go wrong with either. It will be a long time before the Wyred leaves my system.
