Ah gotcha. Just can't see it in the photos. I haven't opened up these 10's yet so haven't seen the crossovers.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -

On the hurricane nuts - #8-32? For the screws, I'm guessing button heads for the tweeters and socket caps for the drivers and the pr? I'll probably look for hex heads rather than torx, so I can just use allen wrenches.
I've never worked with hurricane nuts before, I've always used Larry's rings. What's the best way to install them? Drill out the holes and then tap in with a hammer?
The Hurricane Nuts can be found here: http://www.parts-express.com/8-32-hurricane-nuts-50-pcs--081-1080
I use #8-32 Phillips, Pan Head, Black Oxide, Stainless Steel, 1 1/4" Machine Screws. They're a dead ringer for the original Polk sheet Metal Screws. Some like using Cap Screws on the woofers and Pan Heads on the Tweeter. Regarding the Hurricane Nut installation, you'll need a variable speed drill, preferably with a level bubble on the back end. The hole size is 13/64" for the 8-32 size nuts. Don't drill out the holes with that size immediately. I use three drill sizes to enlarge the hole gradually. Start with 1/8", then 5/32", finishing with the 13/64". This prevents splitting the particle board, or worse, blowing out a chunk of material on the back side. Lay the cabinet on its back, on a level surface. The 1/8" starter bit will follow the original screw hole. Use low speed, and don't apply any pressure to the drill, let the weight of the drill make the hole, and check the level bubble if your drill has one. Do all the holes with the 1/8", then move up to the 5/32" and so on. Next, I use a 3/4" or 1" wood chisel to clear any burrs off the back side of the holes. You may find excess hot glue up where the tweeter holes are drilled. This will need to be removed. To set the Hurricane Nuts, I use a small 1/2" diameter washer, and a couple of sacrificial screws. Put the washer under the head of the screw, hold the hurricane nut to the back of the hole, manually start threading the screw, and finish with the drill with a Phillips bit in it. Use low speed, and you'll know when the Hurricane Nut is seated by the sound of your drill. The washer helps prevent the screw head from sinking too far into the particle board as its pulling the Hurricane nut up into the hole. The H Nuts should be installed on the Tweeter, Woofers, and Passive Radiator. You do not need to install them on the Binding Post Cup. The Cup only receives air pressure fluctuations, and doesn't produce any mechanical stress like the other components do.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Keep in mind, most of the small accessories parts from Dayton, are made in China too. The Dayton Caps are made by Bennic, which are made in China...Home Theater/2 Channel:

Those binding post are actually great quality. A PITA to install on the Monitors, but for the price, can't beat itHome Theater/2 Channel:

I'd also recommend replacing the two short leads from the post to the circuit board. The Monitors all have light gauge wire.Home Theater/2 Channel:

That's easy enough, I've got some black and red Cardas Litz chassis wire left from my 4.1TL's. I should check how much I have, maybe we'll do all the chassis wire while we have them pulled apart.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Sounds like a great idea. The Early 10s were all soldered, no quick connect/spades on the driversHome Theater/2 Channel:

Just remember, the woofers are wired in parallel, and be very careful not to overheat the tweeter connectors. The Peerless Voice Coil Wires are soldered to the top of the lugHome Theater/2 Channel:

Dave, have you tried any cabinet dampening with the monitors, like Sonic Barrier or something similar?Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Yes, I did 2 pairs. The Tweeter/Woofer configuration is similar to my 2ATLs. I installed a 4" X 12" section of Blackhole5 behind each woofer. The BH5 extends from the bottom of the woofer opening, upwards. Then re-install the Dacron batting. There should be two rolled sections, and a third piece that looks like a pair of pants. The "pants" go in first, with the "legs" extending up, on either side of the center brace. You'll end up with a flap at the bottom. Insert the two rolls on either side of the brace, and fold the flap up and tack it in place. I've also see 10s with a single roll stuffed across the top of the brace, with the "pant legs" rolled up behind the woofers. Once again, the bottom flap should be tacked in place to secure the Dacron, and leave the lower section free.Home Theater/2 Channel:

We're going to finish up with the Ultralinears tonight and then open up the M10's and have a look around. Need to measure the internal wire to see how much of the Cardas Litz we will need. I have some, but not enough, so once I know how much more I need to order we'll get the parts ordered and start giving these M10's the royal treatment.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Ok, need some advice. Sonic Craft is all out of the NOS 2.5 ohm MRA-12's. So I have a few choices:
1) MRA-10 2.4 ohm. I never even knew they made a 10W, Elliot tells me they are from a long time ago. 2.4 is within 5% tolerance, although I'd hope they can find a pair that meter on the high side of 2.4 rather than the low side.
2) A pair of NOS MRA-12 5 ohm in parallel. That'd get me to 2.5 ohm, but at a higher cost.
3) New stock MRA-12 2.5 ohm, Mexico made. Elliot says the more recent ones from Mexico are sounding a lot better than the earlier runs, but still not the same as when they were made here.
Thoughts?Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -
I've used the 10s with no problems at all. Don't forget, you're replacing 5 watters. Elliot knows his stuffHome Theater/2 Channel:

It's not the 10W that I'm concerned about, it's that it's a 2.4 and not a 2.5. The 0.1 difference is 4%, and spec is 5%. So if the 2.4's measure low, they could be out of spec.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.
