Just received my new cables...They aren't hooked up yet, but I'm impressed by the construction of them, very nice...

I just got my new TT...Instead of going vintage again I got a Project Debut Carbon...One of the things I liked was instead of cheap wires it has RCA jacks, hence the new purchase. Got a set for TT to pre and pre to amp...

I've had nothing but problems with my B&O even after Soundsmith did a complete rebuild...which is why i went new...

Great little TT :) I love mine, I changed the platter to their Acrylic one and added a "Speed box S" so I don't have to take the platter off to change speeds!

    Enjoy :)

I've been considering the project Carbon. Did you notice any difference with the acrylic platter?

Yes, the metal platter to me seemed very micro phonic, and the Acrylic platter tame some of the vibrations and had a little more weight to it. it was worth the extra $$$ to me.

My Debut Carbon is all original and sounds pretty good that way. I have also, somewhat, considered the acrylic platter upgrade. There is a slight platter rumble between songs occasionally when playing thin records with the volume up loud, but it doesn't bother me too much and otherwise sounds fantastic.

Set up is really easy, just find the neutral spot for the counter weight so that the tonearm just hangs there in midair - then think it said to make 15 turns, and when I check it with a force gauge it was almost spot on for correct force :)

And don't lose that little string and little black doughnut ring that you need for anti-skating :)

On your TT setup you turn the counter weight 17 marks not 17 turns after you find the spot where tonearm just floats there :)

    Ortofon recommends 1,8 g (18 mN) for the 2m.

    So, an update...

a couple new things...Got rid of B&O TT and went with new vs. vintage....Picked up a piano black Project Debut Carbon...

    Then Blue Jeans IC's...

First, my set up before seemed very bland, nice, but just bland....with volume at halfway I barely moved the drivers on my speakers...again not bad, just meh...

Now, this set up seems much different, more dynamic, TT is not as refined as B&O, a little more on the raw side (will need time for stylus to settle in obviously) But the music seems to leap off the record...At 3 on my preamp now the drivers are practically jumping out of the cabs...

Dark Side of Moon, Pink Floyd sounded sick...

    Gaucho, Steely Dan...wowie...

Now listening to Miles Davis, Kind of Blue....

My speakers still need more time to also settle in since the rebuild so I can't wait to see where this goes...

    More to come...

My last stylus purchase is running around 80 hours and seems to be settled. I think that 100 hour range seems to be average. Or my ears just get use to it?...some things are subtle.

I think thats about right for most of the parts, even the phono stage, cables so it will all burn in and get better.

I think the phono stage can be a very important part of your Vinyl sound!

I was talking with the guys at Acoustic Sounds who are phono experts for the most part, ask about if I upgraded my Cartridge what would they recommend -> they said they would NOT recommend changing it as the feel Pro-ject does a really good job of matching their TT with cartridges and that all the money I thought about putting into a new Cartridge should instead go to a new & better Phono stage which if & when I chose to get a newer better TT would go along nicely with it and be a good future upgrade already taken care of :)

If your using a built phono stage or such a seperate phono stage can be a nice upgrade.

Yeah your NAD does have a nice phono stage, I think the parasound's are pretty good also.

my Vincent didn't have 1 so I start with a cheap Pro-ject phono amp and once I upgraded it to a Graham Slee Gram Amp 2 the sound really improved a lot and I wasnt sure what you hooked your TT to but then I saw your sig :)

I forgot till you mentioned it, but speed box does add some performance due to a stabilizing of the table speed!

So...when I first posted about new set up I noticed a hum and vibration coming from the motor of the TT...you could feel it in the base...After 3 mins on a search I found the solution and it worked like a charm...she is dead quiet now...4 5/32 rubber washers and 2 #6 brass washers...stack 2 rubber and one brass on top under the 2 screws that hold the motor flanges...there is rubber under but not on top...this completely isolates the motor...

I called it raw when I first posted, that is completely gone...it sounds great...

also running a Herbies audio mat with the original metal platter...

wow, glad you found fix as I never had a issue with my TT like that. glad its sounding great.

picked up a 45rpm version of "The Dave Brubeck Quartet" LP time out, during the song "Take Five" there is a drum solo towards the end and every time the drummer stomped on that bass pedal I thought he was going to put his foot thru my dang speakers LOL!
