The Marshall Tucker Band (self titled)

    mtcd101.jpg

Saw them here in Charleston several years ago(15 or so years ,geez:) )
Small bar maybe 30 people and the Band had a great time and they were on 'til 2 o'clock in the morning really good show in their prime.

Neil Young - After The Gold Rush, side 1, just him and his guitar or piano depending on the song, very raw and personal, maybe all his albums are like this, this is the only 1 I have.

Of Neil's acoustic stuff, AtGR and Harvest, are in a dead heat for my favorite release.

Cruisin' the stacks tonite and picked one that' not been out of the case in a good while...

    Dave Mathews' Band - Crash
Dave may be "over" now, but this disk shows just how high he once soared. Nice variety of pace, nice lyrics, and great SQ.

Kinda felt like I bumped into an old friend and spent an hour getting reacquainted...

I won't go into a long drawn out description, but what I will say is this is a sweet mellow album with cool, smooth, and almost haunting vocals. Definitely worth checking out! I can't seem to turn it off.

Tony Bennett - Playin' with My Friends: Bennett Sings the Blues
Well... his kinda blues anyway... I've enjoyed TB's style for a while now. At least since his '86 effort, The Art of Excellence.

This is an interesting offering with only a couple solo tracks with the balance being duets with an interesting cast of characters including: k.d. lang, Billy Joel, Bonnie Raitt, B.B., Ray Charles, Sheryl Crow, Diana Krall.

Tony really doesn't do blues, he's a crooner, but nonetheless, this is a nice, kickback and relax listen...

    Ivan Neville - scrape
This 2004 offering from this other Neville ain't no kickback release. I have not gotten funked up like this in a long time. Hook after hook... Gonna be spinnin' this one for a while...

More impressions later, but for now I'll just say, "damn good."

    Robben Ford - Tiger Walk

Nice set from one of my other favorite, Blues, young guns. As usual with Robben, interesting covers supplement his original material. Difference here vs. other releases I have posted here, is that this time he's all instrumental.

A couple covers are of vocal preformances, e.g., " I Can't Stand the Rain", and he does that thing I hate, namely play the vocal line, but there's enough other good work on these tracks to keep my breakfast down.

    Good stuff...

    Sheryl Crow- Self Titled

10 years later this cd holds up quite well. She has grown as an artist but perhaps has gotten a bit too polished and predictable. This cd is much grittier than anything she's put out recently and that's what makes it so enjoyable.

Good stuff... and love his Concerto for Left Hand. The man got a kick out of torturing pianists.

My Blues bud included this little country gem, from an Austin, Texas group in his last pile of loaners...

Cosmic Dust Devils - Cosmic Dust Devils

I am far from being a country fan, but there's more than enough here to hold my interest. Some cuts get a little bluesy, some get rockabilly-ish, some are funny, some are downright tender.

Apparently, per the pic-link, they are now known simply as The Dust Devils and have had a good bit of national success under the new name.

I could listen to her any time, any place. I love her voice.

Robinella and the CC Stingband - No Saint No Prize

The second independent realease (2001) of a local band from here in Knoxville. Robinella Contreras has a singularly unique voice that is a cross between Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton. Believe it or not, it is very pleasing. Progressive bluegrass with jazz elements is the best way to describe the music.
