Band of Horses - Cease to Begin

Great album; I'm anticipating a lot of great stuff from these guys for sometime to come. I've got 'Cease to Begin' and 'Everything All the Time'. Both equally great albums.

I'm finishing up the Beatles 'Abbey Road' original vinyl, and will be throwing down some of Band of Horses and then Iron and Wine.

On my short list for both one of the best albums ever, and one of the best albums for SDA effects ever.

I agree, actually his later stuff never grabbed me the way PHM did. I remember going down near the UT campus and buing it on Vinyl and blasting it on a friends old Marantz set up, needless to say we killed a few brain cells to that one back in the day.

As a die-hard NIN fan, I am always surprised when I hear a statement like this.

Of course, PHM was groundbreaking stuff and had the angsty anthem "Head Like A Hole" on it. It is a great album. But it's only the beginning of what has been a prolific career. Reznor has come a long way since then and his music is some of the most sonically interesting stuff you can find (IMHO).

Give The Fragile a listen. If you like PHM, try some of the post With Teeth stuff. The Downward Spiral is available on SACD and is amazing. There is a rumor afoot that The Fragile is going to get the 5.1 treatment and get an SACD release next year.

Point is, for an audiophile, there is more to NIN than PHM.
    How is this?

LoL... it's John Mayer. Vanilla, generic, chick music.

I have listened to all Trents stuff...he records on Neve gear, I used to work for Rupert Neve. I just find PHM to be a groundbreaking effort and it is more melodic, musical ect. And I am a little older now...my angst music these days is more in the vein of FEAR- The Record...old school punk with attitude.

As for Mayer...I think Continuum is one of my favorite albums of the last few years, anyone who plays with the likes of Pino Palladino and Steve Jordan has to be pretty good. I have yet to get a CD copy of the new one and spin it. From what I have heard so far and discussed with friends in the audio bidness the new one is more commercial but hey....the guy has done his thing. He did early pop stuff then said "ok, heres what I really want to do" and busted out Continuum. Watch the "Where The Light Is" Blu-Ray with the Trio playing and tell me they are not hotter than hell...Jimi would be proud.

This morning it is James McMurtry - Live in Europe , my amigo Jon Dee Graham joins him for a blistering version of Jon Dee's own "Laredo"

I gave up on NIN when I started straying to more indie music and the people I had grown to dislike in high school were suddenly big fans.

I gave Trent another shot a little while back with the free download of "The Slip". And I was floored. I mean I was even curious enough to try it on 2-channel and 5-channel. I swear it was recorded for 5-channel and it is an incredible effort musically. You can really hear the growth but there is a backlash of old NIN in there.

I'm not sure how die-hard NIN fans would rate it, but it is an amazing album worth a good listen for any old-school reznor fans.
