Anyone have any input on the best speaker cables?

I am looking for pre-terminated ones.

At a reasonable price...

Thanks!

I was told not to buy cables from Ebay - a lot of fake/counterfeits...

Get them from cablebuyer. They will terminate them any way you want in any length you want. I never had a problem. I think your thinking of really exspensive cables that are counterfeit.

    Anything a little "better"...?

$1 per foot seems a little "cheap"...

Interesting? The Canare has a great rep in the pro audio and home audio world. Its about the best start one you can get....from there the cost goes up and only ones ears can say if it is worth it or not.

Ditto on the Canare cable. I just made a set of cables over the weekend, terminated with some nice heavy duty spades and neatened up with cable "pants" just like the big guys! Don't be influenced by the pseudo science padded with high prices.

Coat hanger? It'll work, but where do you draw the line? How far do you want to venture down the proverbial "rabbit hole"

As a little shaver, one of my first fun audio memories was to cut–out the back panel of a cereal box with the Jackson 5s latest hit ABC . . . If you'r not familiar, the cardboard box had a Single play song bonded to it, once the cereal box was empty, you could cut around the dotted lines so it could be played on the TT of your choice . . .

Guess what? The SQ was acceptable (then) but not what I would consider acceptable today . .

In short, it all matters, IF IF You can hear a diff, go for it, IF Not don't spend the $

Guess what? To those virgin ears, it sounded good, so did a crude transistor ra-did-E-O. . . .

Good post Glenn, but also lends itself to something else.

If you never heard anything different, an old transistor radio and cardboard record would still be your choice of music playback. So unless you venture outside your comfort zone, you won't discover squat.

BTW, yeah....I too had those cereal box cardboard cutouts, sounded like **** to me. lol

I'm happy, but in the back of my mind...I know I can eke out more performance from the pieces in play.

That's what makes you an audiophile. It's the ones suggesting coat hangers or yapping on about pseudo science and placebo effects that are the audiophools.

I make my own cables but i have wondered how they would compare to premade cables. I have engineered cables for a few companies in the past but all of them where for power or small signal stuff

Well if that's the case, who here hands out the "audiophile membership" cards? LOL Seriously though, I'm now at a place in my journey to take the next step. Small steps as I can afford to the system but so far, whatever I've done to it has been a good move.

    Nbrowser,
Small steps is a good thing, that way you can appreciate and take note what each step brings to the table. We of coarse jest about the audiophile name tag, it's about trying different stuff and finding what blows your skirt up. If your happy with a 400 buck system, cool, open a cold one and kick back...enjoy the tunes. This audio hobby thing is about sharing experiences, not throwing darts at those with deeper wallets...or those without.

Don't make me send Cathy up there to strangle a review of those cables out of ya either. She hates Canada to begin with so she won't be so pleasant when you get that knock on the door.

Sorry guys but I'm going to have to differ on the Canare. It's a decent cable but I'd spend a little more and go with Doug's cables. well worth the extra investment. Then you decide if jumping way up the cable chain is worth it.
