Front center channel speaker & Rear center channel speaker. Yes you can. My AVR is set up for it BUT placement & room size is a issue here..not sure what your receiver set up is?..

Dolby 6.1 was not really widely adapted but if your AVR has it you might as well try it if you have the speaker. http://www.circuitstoday.com/multi-channel-surround-sound-systems2.2 Office Setup | LG 29UB55 21:9 UltraWide | HP Probook 630 G8 | Dell Latitude | Cabasse Stream Amp 100 | Boston Acoustics VS 240 | AUDIORAX Desk Stands | Mirage Omni S8 sub1 | Mirage Omni S8 Sub2

well i have a denon avr x2000...7.1 so i believe it should work...any special way to hook it up.....room size is apox 20 x 11....so its longer then wide...i have a bookshelf right in back dead center...so i would be perfect....anything i need to know ..thanks....

Yeah, it should work fine as a 6.1 setup. Just check your manual, it should tell you how to set it up for best results. For my Onkyo AVR, it's advised that if you're using one rear speaker, you should put in the back center and connect it to the right back speaker output binding post. Then, when running the Audyssey setup program, the AVR will sense that there's only one rear speaker and will calibrate it appropriately. There should be a similar feature on your Denon AVR.
Note though that this would work as a rear surround - a mixing of what would be put out by the two back speakers of a 7.1 setup - and not another copy of what is being put out by your front center speaker. -
ok cool ..ill look at my manual.....ill probabaly have to re-calibrate right ?
-
Yes, you'll definitely have to recalibrate once you get the rear center speaker connected and placed.

Yes, the manual page# 26 says to connect it to the SURROUND BACK LEFT channel. Yes, please to recal the system.

Gonzo64 keep us posted on what you think. If i had a larger room i woulda tried it here...

Years ago we used an actual center channel for 6.1 setups. I always thought it works very well.
Wall mounting is the best way to use it and place it at 72 inches to the tweeter. If you decide to use a shelf to mount it, I'd suggest using some rubber door stoppers to angle it downward just slightly. Basically aiming the Tweeter into the center of the listening space. I have found this to give the overall best effect and natural sound.
If your centers are the same ones , you will have a very good sounding system.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -

i have a cs10 and a csi3 center so i think this should sound good....im definitely going to give this a try...ill..let you guys know how this sounds....also i have a built in bookcase with 4 shelves in the back so i have 4 different levels to put in on ....this should work out good....... -
I have a single rear speaker (Polk Monitor 5jr+) on the shelf behind the couch connected to the L-Rear on my ONKYO 806 and it detected it fine and shows the 6.1 on the screen.
But it never lights up the center rear with a signal except during setup tests. I have several 7.1 surround Bluray movies and I've not gotten it to work yet...Receiver: ONKYO TX-NR929 7.1 AVR 130wpc

Read your manual carefully. On my Pioneer there are different surround settings. If the disc is 5.1, then only the surrounds will work. You have to force it to 6.1 or my case 7.1 by choosing the right setting. The decoder in the receiver or pre-amp will "create" the center rear from the surround signalsHome Theater/2 Channel:

So now. How DOES it sound ? Better / Worse ? If you had it the other way for awhile-take some time & give us your thoughts. Cool ya got er working..
-
yea i think it sounds pretty good...it fills the middle of the room with sound....instead of just the back two surrounds...they are up high on the back wall and i now have the center speaker right in the middle down just above the love seat right behind it...so i think it sounds great....
