Then the new girl I was seeing broke up with me on Christmas Day. Yes, you read that right.
Man, I don't mean any disrespect, but I've been waiting and waiting for someone to ask the question, but no one has. Did she break up with you before or after you exchanged gifts? I can relate to this. If she did it after she got her gift...that's just plain cold! Unless you gave her a gym membership because she was a little on the heavy side. I suggested that to a friend once. He was dating a girl (who he ended up marrying) and every time I saw her she looked like she had grown a couple inches...outward. My friend was unhappy about it, but never said anything to her. I suggested he buy her a gym membership for Christmas. He avoided the topic at all costs. One day I had dinner at their house, and I had never seen anyone eat like that, she didn't have any scraps leftover. So I asked if there was any mashed potatoes left, and she apologized for eating all of them. Then she started complaining about her weight. I thought it was the perfect opportunity for him to bring up the topic...my friend said nothing. So I asked, "Do you work out?" She said no. "Are you on a diet?" No. Do you take diet pills? No. All I could do was reply with a big, "Hmmmm!" Years later, when he told me she was pregnant (I couldn't tell), I told him her body will never be the same. He said, "Good!" I don't think he understood how that was going to work. I bet he wishes he would have bought her that membership now.
When I was in junior high school, I gave my girlfriend a bracelet for Christmas. She bought me a bottle of Polo cologne, but forgot to bring it to school to give to me. She broke up with me the following weekend, over the phone, and I never got my cologne. She ended up giving it to her new boyfriend a month later. We had assigned seating in History class and he sat near me and I had to smell that cologne every day. It was like pouring salt on a wound. I've hated the smell of Polo cologne ever since. -
Glad you're back John. I was actually thinking about you the other day. You've taken CP breaks before, but when I got to thinking the other day, this one had seemed unusually long.
Hopefully everything starts to look up for you!

I'm sorry to hear you've had a big loss and that the year was not very positive. On the bright side, you do have your life, your health and me to pick on.
Take care , you've experienced some lows now hang on for the highs! they will come. -
No, she broke up with me after she got her Christmas present.
Thing was, one of our first dates, she lost one of her earrings. They were inexpensive diamond earrings and she was disappointed.
So trying to be Mr. Cool Guy and win some brownie points, I found a set of diamond earrings on sale at Target. I also found probably the last 6 pack of her favorite seasonal beer in all of NJ. So that was her Christmas gift. A 6 pack of her favorite beer and diamond earrings.
She did leave the beer in the fridge though so I drank it.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

You've run the gamut of bad luck in the past few months!
I'm sorry for all you've gone through, and especially for your loss of your grandmother, albeit a loss that seems to have occurred well before she actually passed.
Try to keep your eyes on the future, and remember that you can make good things happen. It takes effort and a bit of luck -- versus the bad luck you've recently had -- but you can do it.
Obviously, a lot of Polkies on the Forum are there for you.
Sincerely, best wishes for your future! :-)Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers. Welcome back, when I was down in the dumps I kept thinking, it can't get any worse. Slowly things will work themselves out. Hoping 2014 is better for you and looking forward to PF
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -
Oh, it can always get worse, Brock.
Knowing my luck, given the chance, it will.
Hope for the best, expect the worst. Then you're never disappointed, just pleasantly surprised.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Sorry for your loss, and welcome back. Having been to hell and back a few times in my 56 years, I've learned that it's OK to be alone. Friends, Family, Hobbies all come into play. Learn it, live it and embrace it. Get your own head straightened out. Then, when the right one does come along, usually when you least expect it, you enjoy it even more. If it lasts forever, great, if it doesn't you'll have peace of mind knowing you're just fine on your own too. It may sound cynical, but it works.Home Theater/2 Channel:
