Whats up all?
I was watching the Grammy's with the family and She came on and performed her her hit "Dark Horse". If you remove the Rapper and the Rapping, I really enjoyed this song. It sounds like something maybe Evanensence would have done.
My daughter and wife listen to her and up until now, I paid her no mind. So I Ripped in "Prism" and "Teenage Dream". I listened to both Albums and I gotta admit I only like 3 or 4 songs total. I really tried, I did I gave it my best effort but her style is just not for me.
"Roar" is ok to listen to but not all the time. The Video was neat and pretty damn sexy if you ask me. By the way she is absolutely stunning. "Legendary Lovers" is almost listenable. It's ok but something to "poppy" for me. " I actually like "Wide Awake" which is a pretty cool sounding song."Unconditionally" isn't bad, I would have written it a bit differently but overall its ok at best. After that I'm beat.

She is a damn good singer and wish she sung more stuff I could get into. She is so easy on the eyes I might be able to stand a concert if I had to go, you know what I mean?

I would buy her unplugged album. I have it, its recorded great and her talent really shows through.
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Wide Awake is the only song I have heard from her that I like, the video is really cool. But I would rather hear her "moan" then roar..

Kinda disappointed at her performance there, especially when backed up by Peter Frampton and Steve Lukather.

So - in both aesthetics and recorded output, I'd peg her squarely at "OK". That said, she's smart and eloquent (based on radio interviews I've heard) and she is clearly talented - but (as some others have said) just not my cup of tea in either appearance or music.

(as if my opinion would matter to her, her record company... or anyone else, for that matter)

I was flipping channels a few years ago and found a show where she did different versions of her own songs. That show was awesome. It was probably the unplugged video. It really showed that she is talented as well as good looking.

And not one of them is as hot as she is when she's got the blue hair and dressed up like The Little Mermaid. You're a bummer.

I can see your point Tony. Looks can come and go with age. I listen to some of Jo Stafford's recordings that are from about 60 years ago and wonder if people will still listen to Katy Perry songs 60 years from now.

    Doubt it pal.

Was watching an interview with Patti Labelle and she was asked about her status as a so called "Diva". Her answer....said she never considered herself a Diva, but all these "little girls" today who sing one good song think they are one.

    Spot on Patti.

Her first album was the best, more angsty teenager growing up and less streamlined pop industry to it, even though it had some big mainstream hits the rest of the ambum was more indie feeling.

"You're So ****" has me laughing every time

"One of the Boys" oh the angst of growing up a tom boy and changing...

I don't like her stuff at all. I don't wanna hear some kid singing about teenage problems that aren't even really problems. That's fine for the self-centered teenage crowd, but doesn't work for adults IMO. I also generally don't like songs about facing adversity when they really aren't based on facing adversity, to me music should be more personal and it looses credibility when your basis for 'Roar' is about recovering from a breakup or you've got Toby Keith singing about being an American soldier - they come across as very shallow and fake. Shallow and fake are fine for alot of songs, but not songs that are supposed to mean something.

If Eric Clapton wants to do a song about the death of his child or Eva Cassidy does a song about eminent death then I'm fine, but some girl singing about how tough it is to be 16 or about a relationship breakup just doesn't work for mee.

Now I realize everything I've said above isn't fair because I'm placing judgement on what is and isn't a true tragedy, but I can't help that's the way I feel about things.

I agree. While she can definitely sing, her songwriting generally leaves me wanting something more mature. I understand she's going after a certain demographic group as her audience, I can also see her eventually make more mature music....for more mature listeners. I believe she has already mentioned this was her goal in an interview.

You hit the nail on the head here, that is exactly how I feel about her. I also feel this way about Christina Aguilera, she has the voice to be a diva, but her song writing sucks most of the time, when she put out Back to Basics I really thought she was headed in the right direction to be just that, but she has failed on her last two albums IMO!!!

    But her voice is incredible...

I could give a rat's **** about her singing and songwriting skills. If I heard it on the radio, I wouldn't know if it was her, Britney, Christina, or whoever else is singing on the radio these days.

I like it when she plays dress up.
