Help! Yaqin MC-10t Dead in the Water

Something's gone awry with my MC-10t. The power button is pushed but there's no response whatsoever from the unit. Neither the tubes nor the "Yaqin" icon on the front of the device will illuminate. I have tried different electrical outlets and power cords. Nothing.

I usually keep the power button in the "on" position and boot the amp through the power conditioner it's plugged into. (Ya, I know, should be plugged directly into the wall...) The conditioner also has our TV plugged into it. My wife had been watching movies this morning, left the conditioner on and when I walked into the room later I noticed that the amp was off. So I have no idea if there was any sort of "event" that led to the amp dying. All I know is that it's dead now.

Any thoughts or suggestions before I take her (the amp, not my wife) into the local hifi shop on Monday?

Thanks.

Looks like a bad fuse. Now moving to check the valves...

i don't think i would turn it on the way you do, use the switch on the amp.

Correct. Plug directly into the wall outlet to avoid a quick cycling off and on, which will blow the fuse. The remote control was designed without a power button for that very reason.

I remember my first tube amp,the yaqin mc10l. I was just horrified when it broke down in only a few days. Michael ws there to help by guiding me through the trouble shooting and helping me locate and replace the fuse. It was fine after and I learned that the fuse blew from me not letting it power and warm down between switching on/off so good lesson learned for me for all future tube amp usage. Thank goodness it was just the fuse because I bought mine from china and paying return shipping would have been as much as a replacement for that 50lb beast.

Thanks for all the feedback (and support, PFB!) with my first tube crisis.

I took the unit in to the local hifi shop (GLENN POOR'S TV REPAIR, Highly recommended!) today and the guy there walked me through checking the bias. Turns out I was treating the amp a little too gingerly and the probes indeed were not making a good connection when I tried checking them at home.

Working with Bill (actually, getting EDUCATED by him!) I learned that tube 2 was bad. Voltage was climbing up the wall as we tested, and the tube started getting more and more amber.

This has been a great learning experience. Now I'm in the market for a new set of tubes. Will start a new thread on that and look forward to anyone's input.

Finally, Bill at Glenn Poor's spend at least 30 minutes, probably closer to an hour showing me how to test the bias and giving me a good introduction to the tube concept. Wouldn't even take payment. Amazing guy. If anyone is ever in the area they also have an amazing showroom - http://www.glennpoors.com/

Will do, as far as I know for sure I will be in town for a week during April. I come in on Monday night and leave Friday afternoon. Will post a thread about things to do while in the area when it gets closer.
