It was the only reason why I sold my jolida. The problem after that was everything I got with sacd I kept compairing it back to the joida. That took me on an a journey to find a tube sacd player that would sound as good as the jolida did on redbook.

To the op. Unless your going digial like flac files or sacd, with the right tubes, you will have to spend a lot more $ to better the sound. The jolida also is a great traspor and I don't think spending money and a seperate transport through your dac is going to change the sound much if at all. Is there a difference in transports? Yep. When I ran a denon into my w4s dac2 vs the pioneer d9 I had, on redbook the pioneer won hands down. The jolida running through the w4s vs the pioneer, I could not hear a difference. The transport was that solid.

I did some careful listening to the DAC vs the Jolida. So far Jolida is in the lead by far for sound quality.

I will let the DAC burn in a little more to see how it stacks up.

PS the the DAC is the PS Audio NuWave.

I bet the joida is more warm or musical vs analytic. The dac might be more accurate but the jolida is probably more friendly/musical sounding. It all depends on what kind of sound you like.

The lead that the Jolida has over the DAC is due in part to the Psvanes tubes acmf74 is using. I was shocked at the improvement the Psvanes made in my JD-100 after I pulled out the stock Chinese tubes. I don't understand why they ship these CD players with those substandard tubes.

That is the sound I like, warm and musical. Digital seems to suck both those characteristics out and lean towards the analytical side. Trick for me is how to combine both worlds together without losing the warm musical aspects. I need a tubed pre amp....bad.
