Where were you when JFK was assassinated?

I was a little kid, maybe second grade. What I remember is seeing the school's flag at half-mast. I didn't understand it. Our teacher broke down crying when she was explaining it to the class after a few of us asked her about it.

I was in 10th grade I can remember everything that happened very clearly. Then I was watching TV when Jack Ruby killed Oswald, couldn't believe it. Seeing JFK's son salute still effects me.

I was setting in my 4 or 5th grade classroom, the teacher made the announcement of what had happened. School was let out early and when I returned home, I found my mother in tears.

I was 7 years old and walking home that day everyone was crying. My mother explained it to me.

How about everyone filing into the hallway end to end at school and getting into that hunched position for air raid drills.

Same here, Ken. I was walking down a stairwell, changing classes when the announcement came over the PA. I just sat down and stared at the walls for a few minutes in disbelief.

There was a run on all grocery stores, shelves emptied. People thought war was imminent after just going through the Cuban missile crisis.

We were on our way to Manhattan on a bus with my parents to visit my Uncle who had shore leave at a port in Jersey. When the bus stopped at Somerville, N.J. (scheduled stop), the Driver got back on and told everyone, "The President has been shot!" We continued on to NYC where we met my uncle and spent a lot of that weekend in a Hotel with endless news streams on the B&W TV; a sobriety well beyond what a young kid could understand but I knew it was "bad".

Hey Tony, if we're going to hurl negative epithets at LBJ I might have to reprise my actual "opinion" of the Great Communicator. For a lot of us, the Reagan years were like an eclipse of the "sun"! Of course around here, if you're RIGHT you're "right"! lol

    Right?

I was in 2nd grade class when Mr. Brookshire, the principal, came in and told us the President had been shot and school would let out early. I think everybody was glued to the TV that weekend. I felt like I knew him, not for being President but for seeing him in PT-109 when my Dad took us to see the movie.

Uh huh, me too. I had just turned 8 and my mom was crying doing the wash. I had never seen her cry before, it seemed very alien to me so I asked and she told me "President Kennedy had died". And we're Canadian. He was very well liked this side of the border.

I was in 4th grade. The announcement was made by the school principal, then we were dismissed. Teachers were in shock. The news was constantly on. We huddled around the set for days. My brother and I watched Lee harvey Oswald get shot by Jack Ruby that Sunday morning. Schools were closed, stores were closed. It was a strange, unique time in history. It left quite an impression on me that I remember very clearly.

There are still many, many unanswered questions. I believe there was a conspiracy of some sort. And yes, I believe Lee Harvey Oswald was either a rogue CIA agent or a double agent.

I was in high school and a student opened the classroom door and yelled the president been shot. A few minutes later the school was dismissed. I walked home as we always did about 2 miles with my friend. We didn't say anything to each other. Opened the door at home and turned on the TV and Walter Cronkite took of his glasses and said the president is dead.

We watched TV nonstop for the next few days.

We are still watching TV and looking for the answers.

I was in 4th grade. There was a hubbub in the hall & Mr. Easter (only male teacher in grade school) left the room. Came back in a few minutes with red eyes & told us the President had been shot. Soon the only TV in school was rolled in on a cart. I'd never seen the TV in school before.

@ cnh: I'm pretty confident we weren't sent home early; as in KS that would not have been the Right thing to do. A couple years later, LBJ flew into McConnell AFB, I remember my Dad saying he wouldn't walk across the street to see him.

I'm not sure what was up with our schools as I was taken out of school that day to make the trip to NYC by my parents. As for LBJ, not that I'm a fan (I'm not), but so much came out of the years that followed, like the Great Society programs, Civil Rights, etc. (that, of course, all conservatives hate--that's a given, but they also hate the New Deal and all Entitlements)--and frankly, I think that's not what a "compassionate" conservative would think. lol Privatize this and privatize that! Knee jerk rhetoric that needs more "thinking" behind it! People need to read a little more about the history of corporations in this country and actually see what's happened since the late '70s! When those of us hear the rhetoric on the right we don't see anything "compassionate" but a lot of griping and Bitxxing! The free market is like nuclear energy; you can use it to destroy the world or to enrich everyone. The "problem", are YOU moral? Do you feel a moral imperative toward your fellow beings. Or is there NO responsibility toward the meek, the sick, the poor? Wall Street doesn't ask these kinds of questions, they're not important.

Now there is a new book out (The Man Who Killed Kennedy) regurgitating one of the old conspiracies that LBJ was the one behind the assassination of JFK.The core of the theory works around that LBJ's bagman's fingerprints were found on the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Depository and that Oswald was the patsy.
