Monitor 10A

This was a nice little Crossover project. Original Monitor 10As with fully functioning Peerless Tweeters. Sonicaps were chosen for the Hi & Lo-Pass, Mills MRA-12 Resistors, and new Gold Plated Copper Binding Posts were installed. Due to the size of the Lo-Pass Shunt Caps, new riser boards were installed, along with New Nylon Standoffs. All Caps were secured with 3M VHB Tape, and the large shunt caps received Nylon Wire Ties in addition to the 3M VHB tape. The existing fuse holders were cleaned, polished and treated with DeoxIT. The Peerless never sounded so good.

Nice!! I have a set of Monitor 10A's in my shop that has been waiting for the crossover rebuild. Have all the parts to do it, but have not gotten around to it yet. Thanks for posting these photos. They give me an idea of what to expect when I do mine.

Very nice. I should have replaced the binding posts on my 10a's when they were rebuilt.

I sold high performance pressure sensitive tape for many years so I know the answer LOL

How hot do capacitors get? I know resistors get plenty hot and some adhesives won't hold up to extreme temperatures.

Actually it means Very High Bond

I doubt the capacitors even get warm, unless you approach their maximum voltage rating. As for the resistors, 12 watt Mills are more than twice the rating of the originals, and mine are soldered flat to the underside of the circuit board.

I've been using it for years, and new back then what it meant. 3M also make UHB products as well. Fellow Polkies are always welcome, even if it's to hear an alternate and much maligned (mostly undeserved) speaker system.

That's a nice little project, thanks for posting the photos. I didn't know about the 3M VHB tape, looks like a better way to go than hot glue. Do you pick it up at Staples, or at a specialty store?

Thanks. Any good hardware store will have it, Home Depot, Lowes etc.
